I took more pictures of the brood X cicadas yesterday. There are tens of billions of them in some states on the east coast right now. Some trees are covered by thousands of them. The noise is just tremendous. These cicada we see today were born in 2004, they lived underground for 17 years and now are coming out just to mate then die. Their offspring will repeat the same cycle, live under ground until 2038. It's amazing insects can live that long.
