Strangely I have not in great depth really compared the 50mm f2.0 Apo-Lanthar with the 50mm f1.4 GM....but I did spend a bit of time comparing it with my 50mm f1.2 Nokton...Long story short I preferred the GM over the Nokton in pretty much every department (except for manual focusing, weight, size and price)...The GM performs better than the Nokton on close-ups WO.
Brief initial impression with the 50mm Apo-Lanthar is that the lens still has slightly better resolution stopped down in the corners over the GM (At least my copy does and both are well centred).
You can see a little CA WO sometimes with the GM, this dissipates quickly as you stop down just as the vignetting does as you would normally expect.

The 50mm GM weight difference is noticable especially when lugging it about with a kitful of other GM's...A big however for me is that I like the 50mm GM's rendering WO so much so that I would find it hard NOT to take it with me on ALL occasions!
I will most certainly keep both the 50mm lenses (GM + Apo-Lan) and probably end up selling the 50mm Nokton
CY 21/2.8 Master bridge builder Thang Tong Gyalpo built this one back in the 1500s. It cross the mighty Tsangpo (Brahmaputra in India and Bangladesh). Pola filters are definitely out in this place!
