Nice, JL. Can you take a picture of the Zeiss 100 on the a7? I too am thinking about this combo
Thanks and sure thing. It's a bit of a beefy lens, but nothing too horrible. Weighs about 1.5 lb I think, which is a bit more than the 90/2 'Cron.
Focus throw in macro mode is extremely long, which is good. But, this means focus throw in normal focusing is pretty short! It takes a fairly light touch, but it's not impossible - tight focus ring helps. Were it a lesser lens with bad MF action, it would be very hard to MF.
FE 35, FD 20, Leica-R 90, ZF 100/2
Same as above, hood on 90/2 extended and 100/2 installed
I've seen this pop up with a few of my lenses. I generally try to take 2-3 exposures when I go above 1/2000 second. The electronic front curtain shutter seems to be the culprit.
I find that if I take three photos, that at least one of them will be fine. On average probably ~2.3 of the exposures have no issues.
I've seen it with the FE55, Contax G 90, and OM 24. So, I don't think it's related to the lens or adapter.

Ran into a strange issue - darker top 1/3 of frame at high SS and ECFS enabled. I hadn't noticed it before until today, I thought the ZF 100/2 or adapter was culprit, but sure enough, ECFS just doesn't like this lens above 1/2000s or so, though it's nothing unworkable. Interesting, I'll have to test with more lenses now.
I just picked up this 90mm Leica Elmarit-R in a lens trade last week. I traded a lens that was not getting any use for this lens which I would probably never have sought or purchased. I have to say it has beautiful bokeh.
My neighbor heard that I was getting into photography and said she had an old camera in the garage that she hasn't used in years and asked if I would be interested in it.
I said "sure!"
Inside the bag was an 35-105 and a 100-200 f/4.5 attached to an old Maxxum. I asked her how much she wanted for the kit and she responded you can have it! I thanked her profusely and went back home to test out the lenses. Although they aren't very fast and I see some vignetting around 35mm, I thought both of these lenses were great at capturing family events. I have a really good copy of the kit lens that I'll probably sell because I never use it. I also have the FEZA 35mm and 55mm that I never use. I know they're great lenses, but I just don't have as much fun with AF lenses as I do with older SLR lenses.

This shot was taken in the Macro mode wide open via dumb adapter.

200ish mm -- 1/1000 -- ISO 100
200ish mm -- 1/1000 -- ISO 100
I know these aren't great from an artistic perspective, but I really like these zooms for family gatherings and such. In better hands, I think these lenses would be great. The focus knob isn't great, but after fiddling with it a bit, it's not difficult. I read a lot of positive reviews about the 35-105 (old), but I haven't found much on the 100-200. I have a 100-300 f/4 Sigma that I normally shoot from 100-200 range. The Minolta is way more portable and hand holdable with similar, if not better results. Despite all the great reviews, I'm not that impressed with the Sigma, but bear in mind I am a complete novice.

Can you show us an image of what that looks like?
Yeah carisote1 was correct in that it's EFCS and not the lens.
Just a little side note of the explanation behind why I thought, at first, it was the lens for some reason:
1) I'd take photos at 1/8000s without the lens or adapter and see very little (or no) shading...but that's because the camera was getting flooded with light, with nothing to stop it Once I put on the lens, which at the time I just was carrying the 100/2, then the camera was able to expose properly and I could see the shading.
Below are examples. All of these were pointed at a blue sky at around f/2.5, but I'm sure it'll happen with any of my lenses, since it's a known EFCS problem (i've just never noticed it 'till yesterday, apparently)
This was taken with EFCS disabled. Any vignetting is from almost wide-open aperture
This was taken with EFCS enabled. Notice the vignette at the top. Built-in GND filter!

I'm not him, but I'd have to imagine it's compression due to the file size restrictions for FM uploads.
Plus files that are uploaded to FM get processed again. Many times I like my images before they get uploaded and then see what FM has done to them when displayed. Solution is to host your own photos and use a link so that FM doesn't process them in any way.
So far with my A7r I've not seen any obvious compression artifacts even when pushing shadows and highlights around a lot.
Thanks Ronny and same to you. I've noticed you've been using tubes on your setup - I've been considering the same for the tiny critters, but so far I haven't jumped quite yet. I'll probably do so soon, though.
