It also looks to be a male, since the males typically have red on the top of their heads/crowns and also on their throats. By the way, the Merlin Bird ID app is free and can be installed on either android or Apple devices. It’s a nice service for identifying birds.

(edit to add) - I thought it would be helpful for me to explain why I originally posted the above. I don't speak Japanese, but as I understand it, Japan's name literally means something along the lines of "origin of the Sun" or, as some have put it, "Land of the Rising Sun". That was the first thing I thought of when I saw your picture.
