I have the R4 delivered to me today if DHL doesn't lose my package this time 😆
Also have the Sigma 85 1.4 art (EF) on the way. (I was in doubt if i should have ordered the 105, but the size/weight issue made me go for the 85). That lens, according to dxomark seems to perform even better, so i hope that it'll do great on the R4 on the mc-11.
Congrats Marcus, on the new a7R4 coming your way! I'm sure you will be extremely happy with it.
For portraits and events, I am sure the R4 is somewhat overkill. The high detail it makes possible is best used on things like landscape, travel, and architecture. Considering that most of us will be printing or presenting to the same sizes and viewing distances as with smaller MP cameras, the noise is not an issue (the extreme acuity of details can be, well, extreme! ). Considering that at 61MP we are often reducing the image further than "normal", the noise is also reduced in size -- if anything, it adds a little to the perceived micro-contrast on similar viewing.
Personally, I'm looking to possibly get either a Canon R or Sony a7III for the people and event types of work where 24-36MP seems about the right range for details and file size.
Looking forward to seeing some of your new work with the a7R4 and Sigma 85!

Stephen - That image is otherworldly and beautiful. But I bet standing there to see such a sight was even more awesome!
Thanks Bob! And you are right. There are some experiences in photography that are special. If you have never seen the Northern Lights, then seeing them for the first time is really cool. It reminds me a bit of seeing the firefall at Yosemite. Both are like little miracles where you are grateful to have experienced it first hand. The photos are nice too, tho....
