A7R3 100-400mm with 2X TC on the dragon fly. The animal eye auto focus did try to lock on the dragon fly, but was not able to . Loosing PDAF with the 2XTC really slowed down autofocus on the A7R3.

Sigma Art 40mm minimum focus distance is "only" 36cm (magnification 1:5.6 = image plane size 202mm x 134mm / 7.9" x 5.3"), but it seems that Sigma was able to keep performance OK even at f/1.4. Using this might be difficult as the DOF is so shallow, that it's really hard to place any subjects, e.g. in last picture I had to choose to have part of wood in focus or the lichen growing on the wood (=f/1.4 really not at all suitable for this kind of photo...).

there are 2 versions of the 1.4 TC converter.
The first generation had a small ring inside which was removed by the second generation.
Everybody withe the first one can send it to Sony to get the ring removed.
I had severe vignetting with the first one and the 100-400 GM it was not usable
.
The vignetting is gone with the second one. It works now perfect.
If you now buy a new converter you should get the newer version, i would not buy a used one.

Is it a common problem ?
I want it myself for bird photos

Ronny, here is a long thread about this issue :https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1535862/0
I am on my third copy, directly sent from Sony as a replacement, same issue. My solution is to turn on the camera’s lens compensation/shading. Werner’s observation about the removal of a ring in the newer ones is very interesting. Some in the thread got pretty new ones, same problem. Maybe Sony only sent the bad ones to the US.
Here is shot with the 1.4 TC (my second one) shot at 528 mm with 100-400.
I think i posted that shot before, here just to show the no vignetting.
With my first converter i had to crop the shots a lot to get rid of the vignetting it was extremly in the corners with no way to remove it in post.
I had both converters next to each others an you could clearly see the removing of the ring. The ring is quite small but it made all the difference.
