For whatever reasons, I feel like processing the image as a high-key touch. Although the entire image is okay but I do like the crop of this model''s face only. This Sigma lens is really superb; no ifs and buts about it. I think I found a new favorite portrait lens. I am not sure whether I will get the new 135mm f/1.4 GM now..... .
Joshua, apologies if you’ve already mentioned this but do you have the Sigma 105/1.4 in Sony FE mount or Canon EF mount? In any case, it’s clearly a very impressive lens. Out of curiosity, I looked at the B&H page for the FE version and noticed the Leica L mount version was offered as an alternative. It seems that all the Sigma Art lenses are now available for pre-order in Leica L mount. The Panasonic-Leica-Sigma alliance is real!
Samuli, the pictures made with the Sigma Art 40/1.4 look impressive to my eye and don’t seem out of character with your overall body of work. So I’m curious as to whether or not the results you’re getting are good enough to overcome your antipathy towards the 35ish field of view...
Thanks Samuli! Yes, the 28 ZE fits in well with my natural inclinations, so far. It does have quite a lot of distortion when dealing with buildings, and I'm still getting used to its odd field curvature and DOF, but so far, it is a fun lens to use.
I want to see how the 28 ZE compares with the 25 and 35, the other ZE lenses I currently have.
The Sigma 40 Art seems to fit right in with your style of shooting. I'm anxious to see more results from this stunning lens. It raises my curiosity about their upcoming 28 Art. Joshua has shown some great results with Sigma 135 Art, and now the 105 Art. Sigma is really playing the game to win on imaging, if not size.
Thanks for all your great posts and documentation of settings.

Look better now Joshua Nice shots !
I tested the sigma 105 art yesterday ( Nikon mount ) and it's a best in many ways
I really liked it
Sony 90G more testshots
Thank you, Ronny! Your images, whether from a test or not, are always great! Yes, the Sigma is definitely a unique lens. Extremely sharp at even wide open in the center ⅔ of the image and who cares about the remaining area .

Hi Jonathon,
Thank you! Mine is a Canon EF version; I did mention it somewhere previously but no big deal. The lens in combo with the MC-11 doesn't miss a beat, I would say. It is fast, even in AF-C, and accurate. Even the FE version is a lens designed more for DSLR. So, the FE version is basically the same as the EF version plus MC-11. I bought mine used here on FM and the price for the EF mount is quite a bit lower than that of the FE mount and I already have the MC-11.
It is a stout and heavy lens though. I used it a lot yesterday and it was a fairly fast pace action and we moved around quite a bit, I ended up using a monopod for it and it felt like that was a good move since it has a rotating collar for both formats. I kept the tightening screw for the collar somewhat loose and I could easily rotate the camera/lens combo that way.

Another image taken with the Sigma 105mm although I stopped the aperture down by ⅓....

I like how Sigma 40mm renders, but I'll need to shoot more to get good feeling is 40mm FOV ok or is it too wide for normal lens.
For me it's also important factor how it works together with other lenses. I love the shooting experience with combination of 28-50-135, my work with this combo is effortless and everything just works. Somehow I feel that 28-40-135 has too big gap between normal and tele lens. Maybe 40mm is better used with 28-40-85 combo or together with 100-300mm zoom; 28-40-100-300. Hard to say without actually shooting more with the lens on different combinations.
If 7Artisans's new 75mm f/1.2 is good lens, then combination of 28-40-75 looks really good (on simulation...). 7Artisans 28mm & 75mm are small lenses then combined with gigantic Sigma 40mm back in the days normal lenses used to be the smallest lenses...
Just playing around with my new Batis 40 in close Focus mode at the minimum focus distance and wide open at f/2.0. I really like the feel of this lens on the A7R3. Cross post from Batis 40 new firmware thread.
