I am with Nitro in this case, lenses (and any tests) are not my photographys main interest, nor is it bokeh: You can hardly find any in my shots.
I have used the 24-105 from a friend and it's a fine lens, extremly versatile o.c.(that can be more important than the last grain of sharpness on extreme trips) . The Mustang is nice as is the background. If i would not have the 24-70 GM i would think about the 24-105 .... and, yea, i don't know if there are differences to the shot above...

Matt or Jess,
Your images are excellently refreshing - well done!
Thank you so much for the kind words! This is Matt. My wife and I share a Flickr account. She shoots Fuji and doesn't post on the board here, but she is actually looking to switch to Sony soon so I look forward to sharing some of her shots as well!
Ronny, the 24-70GM has better boke quality (and larger quantity) on that kind of middle distance boke shots you took from Nitro. But it should not matter as I doubt anyone buys slow f/4 lens for boke shots
If I would be forced (can't see any reason why I would do it voluntarily...) to shoot with f/2.8 zoom, I would choose latest Canon 24-70, I prefer it's rendering style over 24-70GM [for people who don't know me: I could not care less about AF and other modern functionalities, typically AF means to me that lens has worse focusing as AF-lenses tend to have short throw, bad focus feeling and/or are done badly by using focus by wire]
Sony FE 1.4/85 GM @ f/3.2, 1/2000s, Sony A7 mkII @ ISO 100
Sony FE 1.4/85 GM @ f/2.0, 1/8000s, Sony A7 mkII @ ISO 100
Sony FE 1.4/85 GM @ f/2.0, 1/8000s, Sony A7 mkII @ ISO 100
Sony FE 1.4/85 GM @ f/1.7, 1/2000s, Sony A7 mkII @ ISO 100
My first attempts at night and "astro" photography (unfortunately a bit cloudy and moon out but I wasn't in Germany long). Processed in LR to make stars pop a bit, adjusted levels and contrast.
I went with this 24-105G as well. Then I doubled-down with Canon 24-70/2.8L II -- a much better value than the Sony GM version. I love the pairing and imaging choices.
Jim, I just acquired a Canon 24-70 f2.8 L II again. Not selling the Sony 24-105 though. The Canon's sunstar is pretty decent for a zoom, a big factor why I bought one again.
A side note, I haven't seen Rene (Xing) post for a while. Hope she is ok.
