That's correct, Rich - the Canon in the front and the Sony in the rear of the MB V; hence the "weird" FL data in the exif.
H Joshua,
Thanks. I thought that was the case. The flexibility of this capability is certainly a reason to consider keeping the Canon 400mm f2.8 instead of opting for purchasing the new Sony 400mm f2.8 GM lens which will only offer the capabilities of using the lens alone, or with either the 1.4X or 2X Sony Teleconverters.

Yes, you are correct, Rich. The optical performance of that Canon lens is superb and I would be happy if the Sony GM counterpart performs just like the Canon lens optically but and that's a BIG but, I am convinced that the AF performance of the native lens would just clobber that of the adapted lens. Do you need that? In my case, not all the time but there are cases where I really would like the AF performance of the Canon lens in combo with the MB V or Sigma MC-11 to be better. The way I look at it is right now is either Sony comes out with a A9r, a higher resolution A9, which enables more significant cropping or the A7000 or A6700, an APS-C body with the AF performance similar to that of the current A9. That being said, a lens with an effective FL of 800mm at f/5.6 lens is not something that we should sneer at , of course.
Back from 2 weeks in Scotland and the Lake District yesterday with the 14mm SP Rokinon, 21mm Loxia, 24mm Canon TSE, 35mm Canon FD T/S lens, 65mm VC and 135mm Batis. Happy to say that they all got a good amount of use. NOT happy that my checked bag didn't make it to me until 6 days in the trip, so I was unsupported (no tripod) for a while. IBIS worked well enough to hand hold shots to slow water motion and we had mainly lousy weather for the 1st week so no astro options in any case.
