Im using my old sb600 with impact triggers. They are manual work great and are very well built. Cosmetically look and fit very good on the A7(r)
^ Really nice mills. So you're shooting the a7 now? Any particular reason you chose the a7 over the 7r? I'm torn between trying the a7 or the a7r. It would fill a specialty slot for me and not have the pressure of having to be a main cam for the time being. Luckily I'm not in a hurry so I'm going to watch as many videos as I can of the two.
Interesting to see that both you and Phillip Reeve shot the a7 (two of the people whose pictures I really respect on these forums).
Also I would like to know the same for you Phillip, why you chose the 7 over the 7r.
I got a great deal on the A7 so figured might as well give it a try (as I really enjoyed the 35 and 55 FE's so much on the A7r) and low and behold, ended up really liking the 7.
The shutter lag is a lot less, the PDAF works well, and for my typical needs, the resolution is fine. The R was always pretty darn demanding of technique and for handheld shooting while out walking and such, I often wasn't really able to take full advantage of what it had to offer. Fantastic with good technique, ie; support in my case as I'm very unsteady, but overall for the way I shoot, can't really say I'm giving up much.
I may pick up an R again, provided I come across a used one a can't turn down price, for landscape work, but for the $1100 (I think it was) I paid for my 7, I'm really pleased. Way more than I was with the $2300 R when I bought it new.
I have to say that so many of these Minolta Images have a special magic to them. Thanks for posting.
I hope these questions aren't too elementary...
I presume you are using an adapter with the lens to mate it to the a7R. Which adapter are you using? Does this adapter allow for non-stop down metering? Does the camera record any exif information?
Catadioptric bokeh is funky, but at the same time, you can have fun with it!
Sony A7(R)->LA-EA4->Sony 500mm reflex lens
The A7(R) needs a shutter release solution, all that moving metal causes serious problems at high magnification. Sony, wake the @%$#@ up and give users a firmware fix.
