Not in the same league as Bastian's Milky Way above but note this one was with what would be unheard of in years past....a zoom lens and at F4
I've sought long and hard for a Milky Way lens. The Batis 18 frustrated me for focus. The Laowa 15/2's coma frustrated me into sending an image to Laowa and asking 'is that acceptable to you?' and their response (looks normal), and Rokinons that some were good to excellent and others where infinity was a inch from where it should be.
Finally I accepted the fact that where I live is 300+ days of cloud/rain/fog/snow/sleet.
Not only the above but it follows me! We just returned from 24 days in the Canadian maritimes which should have some of the darkest skies in the east....I was given one night out of 24 with no Moon or cloud and it was when we were almost home.
So the Sony 12-24mm is now my Milky Way lens and this shot long after I'd given up on getting a Milky Way while on this vacation. I'd awoken to a nature call, looked up and then grabbed the kit...and my reward? A goofy sign and a road for my ground-tie objects ha!

Laguna Sucia in Patagonia (Argentina). It was a tough boulder hopping hike getting to this - no trail!

That hike is indeed punishing! I climbed all the way up the rocky scree to the left of the lake where all the trees and bushes are for the autumn colours... unfortunately by the time I got there Fitz Roy was totally hidden.
I have been taking photos of the Artemis and My Yot, fishing boats that were wrecked during one the nor'easters on the stone jetty that connects the very tip of Cape Cod to Provincetown. https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1255248/702#14457785
On Sunday night I walked over to Wood End to capture the milky way and the lighthouse. The My Yot was in the last stages of being removed from the jetty. In fact while taking the 1st milky way shot a boat came along and removed the barge and crane (as it was a high-high tide and the containers were filled no doubt).
My Yot : A7R3 18mm Batis light pollution filter
Wood End lighthouse and milky way : A7R3 14mm SP Rokinon
Pano : A7R3 14mm SP Rokinon
A faint streaky cloud had drifted in by the time I shot the pano and it's visible at both ends ...
Maybe you will have to find a used 300/2.8L in nice condition? I know it's big, but if you only carry that and another lens with two bodies, it might not be too bad to lug around. You've obviously done it before, right?
