Great shots and great thread !!
I see several ~50 mm lenses from Voightlander, Canon, Contax, Nikon, etc... and not much Zeiss 55 mm f1.8. Why is the reason? Does the other non natives lenses work better than the Zeiss 55 mm or you already have these so is not worth buying the Zeiss?
I have the A7 with LA-EA4 and several lenses for Sony alpha, including a Minolta 50 mm f1.7, but I'm considering buying the Zeiss 55 mm.
Thanks in advance.
The zeiss is expensive, not everyone likes the zeiss 'look' and in my case, I already own my Pentax Super Tak, actually two of them.

I've not kept track, but from following this thread since its infant stages, I get the feeling that quite a lot of a7(r) users own and use the 55 1.8. You'd probably be hard pressed to find a better lens (other than the Otus and possibly the new Sigma), if sharpness across the frame is your main concern.
That being said, a lot of folks don't like the by-wire manual focusing and some people are not fond of the bokeh. Many simply decided to use their existing lenses with adapters. Also many 20-50mm MF (and sometimes even AF) lenses from the makers you listed above are widely available on the second-hand market and more affordable than the 55 1.8, while still offering great bang for the buck. If you can afford it and don't mind the by-wire MF, I can only recommend the 55 1.8. It's a great lens.
While they probably don't do the lens justice, the following two shots were taken the 55 1.8. The first was at f2, the second at 2.8.

hi Gregg,
these in BW are awesone!
in addition to the magnificent lens, which I congratulate,
what kind of process adopted for this impressive result?
Hi roxsan,
I use a combination of LR 5, silver Efex 2, and OnOne BW conversion.
Thanks,
Gregg

I only have one Zeiss, the 24-70 OSS and like it very much. I have a Sigma 30mm F2.8 from my old NEX6 and it works nice in the A7, I took this photo with this combo:

Well, I'm quite new in photography so I'm not really sure what I could obtain from diferent lenses. I mainly take pics at my study from the products I sell online (I use a Minolta 100mm macro f2.8 for this), but I'm trying to improve my skills taking pictures in travels, of my son, etc...
I also had a Sigma 50mm f1.4 but I found it too soft and the AF wasn't fast.
Your pics look amazing

the ZE 55/1.8 is one of the best performing ~50mm lenses around. better than most everything except the otus and the newly released sigma (not the old one you had). despite that i don't have any particular interest in getting one because i have half a dozen other 50mm lenses already that i'm perfectly happy with and i prefer manual focus. many people on this forum are in similar situations as the forum started out as a place for people using leica R lenses and older manual focus lenses on their slrs.
anyway a couple waterfowl with the rokkor 58/1.2 wide open:

This photos are superb !!
I mainly use manual focus also, sometimes the CF for objects in movement.
Thanks fot the answer, I think that I'll get one ZE 55.
Yes, I agree. I think that the better clarity and sharpness from the lenses I have came from the Minolta 100mm macro f2.8, this is the reason I use it in the studio.

i was at the Philly show, but i absolutely LOVE your shots of her. great job man, very creative and awesome processing. Id really like to play with a TS lens at some point, but a little out of my price range atm
Thanks, I like your shot too!
I really enjoy using the tilt shift lens. It works so well with the focus peaking on the A7, im so glad I didnt end up selling it. I think it can be picked up for around $600 but doesnt often pop up in the market.
One lens that I want to pick up (due to this thread) is the voigtlander 35 1,4 or the 40 1,4. Its small/light-weight and doesnt seem to have any issues on the a7. I figure that the new a7s and future sony cameras will work even better with voigtlander wides as well. Good value, size, weight, and optical quality.
