Beautiful morning frost. To walk around on the marsh felt like a dream. Too bad it doesn't last long.

More and more beautiful, Helena! I think you've found a great close-up method with that lens and back-lighting. The individual leaf looks like a jewel in a necklace!

Thank you very much Jim! Yes, the lens really shines for close-ups in this kind of light.
Btw. forgot to mention that I used my old Canon 250D close-up lens for those.

Thank you Bob and likewise! You do really well with that new CV 60mm (and of course your other lenses). Looking forward to see more.

I plan to buy the new CV 40/1.2 and think that together with the Monocle it could handle 95% of what I shoot. Before going digital I had a compact Minolta with a fixed 38/1.8 lens that I loved and brought on many trips. Sony A7 with CV 40 should come close to that experience, although larger.

(I still have the Lensbaby but have temporarily put it on the shelf.)

It seems ironic (or tragic) when one thinks of the great French photographers (including Eugène Atget, Robert Doisneau, and Willy Ronis) who made wonderful pictures in public places without having to worry about getting consent. This New York Times article, titled Protecting the Right to Photograph, or Not to Be Photographed discusses the issue in depth.

It's a conundrum. I've generally found that people in '3rd world countries' generally seem to display far less angst to having their photo taken (not applicable to Morocco !), in some they are even keen, whilst in the 'West' people are far more reticent, or likely to be aggressively against, having their shot taken, especially men. However without taking candid shots there would be almost no commentary on life in the 21st C in those countries/cities.

BTW I was 'taught' that when taking street shots you should always be shooting people's faces unless there is a specific reason for the shot not to (e.g. reflection in a window shows it or for a silhouette). Of course it requires far more 'nerve' on behalf of the shooter but I've almost always found that a smile after the shot deflects most potential objections. If you want a straight up portrait just ask !

I really don't get the point of shots of people's backs. One of the best street shooters here (and on other forums) is Lieutenant Z and you rarely see him post anything but face-on shots.

Thanks Joshua for another stunning Carneval image, incredible detail and harmonious colors.
You make this lens shine. BTW, when is Carneval season?

K-H.

Thank you, K-H.! In 2018 the Carnival will start on Saturday, January 27 until Tuesday, February 13. Out of the 5 times being there, I was in the first weekend 4 times and I got pretty lucky weather-wise. Two years ago, I was there in the second weekend and the weather didn't cooperate. Needless to say, people in elaborate masks and costumes didn't bother to go out when it rained. I am not sure that I will be going next year as the time falls too close to my birding trip to Costa Rica.

Will you then keep the Ultron 35/1.7? You do such good work with that lens already . . .

Thanks so much, Ronny. I was happy to get at the gardens for the early sun breaking through the thin overcast. Really well suited this lens.

Love your "basalt assault," storming the beach in Iceland. Really dynamic with the action and graphic lines.

Thank you, Ronny! As much as I love your image of the basalt columns from Iceland but the next image you posted of the Godafos waterfall is over the top! I could only say one word "Wow".
