Werner, what a wonderful image at the top of the page with which to be welcomed back. I keep getting bogged down with work and travel and have lost the time to keep up with this wonderful thread. Less work...more photography needed.
On a recent business trip to China - my first time there - I was fortunate enough to go to the Great Wall for a half day excursion. It was amazing. I was there during the same time of an economic summit in Beijing, so all of the factories had been turned off, and the sky was gorgeous. We could literally see the Beijing skyline from 50 miles away...something my Chines friend who took us there said he had never been able to see in 40 years of going there. In addition, for reasons beyond me, there was almost no one else at the Wall...so I literally was able to take shots of the empty ramparts. Magical.
All shots with the a7ii and FE 16-35/4, most are nominally SOOC...what a day and great light!

If it was close to a public holiday, as we had this week, then Chinese will tend to save up family trips for those times - even though tourist destinations will be simply horrible at that time. Also since many cars were kept off the road at the time of the economic summit it's likely many people couldn't have driven out of the city even if they wanted to !
Nice pics indeed Jim !
I want to go back to the more dilapidated sections when there is snow all over the wall and surrounding areas - to shoot it with the drone and long exposure night photography. I'd planned a week camping on the wall last Winter .. but although there were many cold days not enough snow !! This winter I hope

These are the best Great Wall shots I have seen for ages. It's always cloudy and overcast there. Well done Jim!

Thank you, Ronny! It is a superb performer for landscape and cityscape, that's for sure. Another advantage of that lens is its smallish size. So, I now have a set of smallish lenses lenses I can take with me on a not photography oriented trip.
Your images of that bridge are truly impressive, regardless of the lens used . Of course, the lens selection won't hurt either.

"red canvas", Loxia 85mm
Thank you very much, rol-and! I love the selected DOF of the red canvas!
Here is another image from Vegas. I tend to capture similar images when trying out a new lens.... Of course, the lighting conditions would be different but somehow I still feel that I could evaluate the character of lenses that way . This particular spot is attractive at a low setting sun and the statue and front side of the structure (s) are by another (casino) building on the other side of the street behind me and this time around the clouds added something to the image.
