Sorry to hear that, Gregg! When I was but a boy, my parents had 3 dachshunds in succession, and I remember, some 50 years later, the sadness of the loss when each of them passed.
A few people have been asking me about the MIR 1B that I bought and doing the lens reversal. So, I thought I would post a pic of the lens on the A6500 and answer some questions.
I was able to find and buy the lens from a US Seller. It cost me just over $40. They seem to be more available in Russia but I was able to find a nice mint copy. The reversal process was easy. A spanner wrench will loosen the front ring but sometimes, its not necessary and the ring can be loosened using the lens removal tool. I prefer the latter since it is gentler on the lens ring.
The process works quite well for the MIR 1B because the front element is easily removed and standalone. Also, when reversed it doesn't touch any other elements. In otherwords, once the ring is removed, the front element comes right out, reversed and everything is tightened up again. I tried this with a Jupiter 3 but the reversed element touches the internal elements and can't be tightened down so the Jupiter 3 is a no go.
My lens came with an M42 to EOS adapter included so until my M42 to Leica M adapter arrives, I attached the lens via the MC-11 adapter and manually focused. However, I do plan to use the lens with TAP. It will be interesting to see if it will AF as the reversed lens is not very sharp overall but for these images, it really doesn't matter. I can control the amount of blur based on aperture setting. The images posted were f/2.8-4.
I'm just getting started and experimenting. Bokeh balls of blurred lights are really cool. Can't wait to take some night shots! More pics when I get home . . .
I know how it feels -- in the last two years, I had to put down three dogs, two being mature litter-mate brothers; all being rescues. The two brothers were the dogs our daughters grew up with, and the third a dog found at our shooting club where someone had abandoned her to become coyote chow -- she passed at about 8 years due to organ failure. Very sad and quite a few tears shed, but many terrific memories too, having shared a happy time in our home.
^^^^ Thank you Jim. Rajah was not just our dog, too. She was family. The day we brought Mason home from the hospital, we set him down in his car seat to introduce him to Rajah. She promptly licked him from head to toe! And he was thus accepted into her family. She made it clear throughout her life , that she was the Alpha and we were hers, including our newborn. We still have Nala, our 20 month old Vizsla, who is having a hard time as well. But in her, Rajah will always live as a reminder.
Thank you everyone for listening, and caring. It means much.
Gregg
Gregg,
Sorry to hear of your loss brother, my heart goes out to you and your family. That's the hard part with dogs, they love us unconditionally provide us with much joy it doesn't seem fair that their lives don't last longer. Often its tough to know exactly when we need to let them go too. I said goodbye to two of ours over the last couple years and those of us who love dogs know it feels like losing a family member or close friend.
It's good you have some nice images to help keep her memory close to your hearts.
Gregg,
So sorry to hear of the passing of such a wonderful family member. I've had to put down two rescues over the years who were like family and I know how hard it can be. I have two rescued Chocolate Labradors currently and dread the days when they will be gone.
Gregg, very sorry to hear about your beautiful dog. You've captured some wonderful images, especially the one with your son. I have two dogs myself and one is a border collie. Both are over 10 years and it will be so tough when we have to say goodbye to either of them. Take care.

Hello all. It's been several days if not a week since my last post. Was getting ready to,when life got in the way as it usually does. I'm posting some very sad news. Not to bring people down, but to let my friends know as I consider many people on this thread my friends. And without friends, of any type, we would be nothing...
Easter Sunday, our beloved friend and family member, whom we considered our first born, Rajah, our almost 13 yr old Vizsla passed. We knew it was coming soon. But you're never really ready to let go, no matter how much you tell yourself you are. And that's compounded by having kids who have grown up with her. Not to get teary-eyed on you(as we have done plenty of that already), but just to give a small tribute to her, here, as I don't do FB...and many here have four-legged companions of some sort and know the joy they bring
Most of these grabs were from years past before Sony, but the first two are Sony to start it off...

All those grey hairs in the first two pictures, the ones taken most recently. May all our dogs live long lives surrounded by so much beauty and such loving companions.

Sorry to hear that Gregg. I too have a four legged buddy, and I'll be devastated when he passes. Seems that she had a good long life with you and your family. She's very lucky to have had you guys, and you her. Thanks for sharing with us.
