Continuing evaluation of my Leica APO-Summicron-M 90mm 1st shoot images from last summer. This time f/2.8 images under the loupe; generally it's obvious that focus plane contrast is higher 1 stop down, and doesn't seem to improve from that by closing down more (in MTF charts it will, but I can't see it in practice, while f/2 vs f/2.8 is obvious). Also boke quality improves, and issues like high concentration of light to boke "ball" edges is gone.
1 stop down makes the focus plane to really stand out from rest of the scene. This rendering style is closer to Zeiss than Leica, at least based on my experience of Leica lenses. Thou I don't have many other "high quality Leica's", the "next best" Leica's I have are APO-Elmarit-R 180mm and Elmarit-R 28mm v2 - they don't have this kind of rendering style. In this photo both target and background are far away, which typically causes issues in boke, but lens seems to render background boke very nicely without annoying boke quality issues. Foreground boke is nice to my eyes.
Again f/2.8 and this time background is far and subject in mid distance; boke has texture and is not buttery smooth, but I don't find annoying items from it. Front boke seems to be always nice from this lens, or I have not been able to spot front boke issues from the ~300 photos I have viewed from the lens. Focus plane stuff nothing interesting; high contrast & high sharpness.
Still f/2.8: shoot this scene mostly to get typical worst case boke scenario: subject distance ~4m/12feet and background high contrast and quite close to subject. The twigs on right side background tree don't look very pleasant, as I assumed. Would be interesting to see f/4 version, but I did not shoot it, so it remains mystery would one more stop down smoothen boke quality (notice, not quantity...).

Is the lens a keeper ?
I'm interested in acquiring my first AF lens for Sony
But actually, the Sony FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G is very interesting for me also
Don't know why

A7R2, Contax C/Y 35-70/3.4
A few from my favorite manual focus macro lens: Lester A Dine Kiron 105mm 2.8. All shot between F8 and F16 (mostly F11 and higher). A i40 flash is attached by sync cord on a bracket. All shots from a SONY A7 I.
Not getting much of an opportunity to go out with the end of the semester in full swing, but did some senior photos for a friend. Amazing shots on display here, as usual. Please excuse my terrible attempts at posing, haha.
Well, today I received my $40 Russian MIR 1B 37/2.8. I inverted the front element in about 2 minutes and shot wide open. Here's the first few examples. This could be fun . . .
