Along Loch Valley Road, New Tripoli, PA
A couple takes on the same spot from an afternoon drive home again with the CV 35/1.2, followed by a morning grab down the street from home with the FE16-35. I had several I liked, but you can only look at a sunrise from the same general spot so many times. Next time I'm not slogging through wet grass in work shoes without a tripod.
Werner...love it!
Alright guys...after Bob, Werner, Guy, Fred, and Joshua all got the new Techart adapter, I gave in...the idea of using my Contax 35-70/3.4 with AF is too tempting! I may need help with setup, so I'll be expecting help

Hey Folks, not sure if I asked this here but has anyone figured out a good workflow to post here from Lightroom mobile or iPad? Right now I can post to Flickr Åland then to FM but I'd like to find a direct method as I post more selectively to Flickr.

Staying in the color theme of red and this one was taken just now with Leica-M 50mm Summilux ASPH at wide open using Techart. The camera was handheld and in AF-C mode.
Frankly, the rendition of this lens on the M9, my last Leica M body was..... well, different. Somehow, the Sony sensor seems to render more.... well, brilliantly. Not only at MFD but for normal distances but I was taking pictures of only craps around the house and I would rather not post them. Although I do have Leica-M to Sony E adapters and use it from time to time but the new adapter is definitely a game changer, for me, at least and YMMV, of course. ...Show more →
Joshua, beautiful photo as always from you I must say that I always enjoy seeing your photos, not just because they are of such a high quality, but because you explain so much about background and context. Your enthusiasm is inspiring
Just one question: you say that the techart adapter is a game changer, is that because of the autofocus or the minimum focus distance? If it is the latter, would you say that the techart adapter is different than, say, the Hawks' factory close focus adapter for Leica m lenses? I have this adapter, and it has worked well, but wonder if the techart will allow me to focus even closer.

Hi Ole, thank you very much for your compliment. I am flattered....
Both features, AF and the ability to focus closer than the actual MFD of the lens make it the game changer. I do have the Hawk's Factory adapter with helicoid tube as well and it works great and precise. It is basically my go to adapter for Leica-M to Sony E adapter.
Here is a brief rundown of the Techart - Basically, the AF works by varying the distance of the entire lens to the sensor. The lens is set at its infinity setting for that purpose and the adapter adjust the distance to get the image into focus. Now, if you try to focus at close to the MFD of the lens that way, the adapter extends like an automatic extension tube and then if you turn the actual focusing ring of the lens to its MFD, then you get a closer focusing distance than what the focusing ring of the lens indicates.
However, the close focusing ability of the Techart is not as close as that you get using the Hawk's adapter but with continuous AF. But it is still better than a regular Leica-M to Sony E adapter enables you. From my experience, it would vary from lens to lens but I venture to say I could focus to approximately 0.6-0.7m from a lens with an MFD of 1m, like the 50mm Summilux f/1.4 ASPH. I do not have the Contax 35-70mm lens and from what I could gather when set a the macro distance, the MFD of this lens lets you get almost actual macro ratio. I will let somebody, like Bob, and others that actually has/have that lens chime in. Hope this helps.
Take care,
Joshua
More images from Costa Rica... The first one is of an intimidating pit viper and the second one is of a Kingfisher. The only species and specimen of a Kingfisher throughout the entire trip.... . Not as colorful as I wanted it to be but oh, well.

The Kingfisher is beautiful but the Eyelash Viper is just wonderful. We we were in CR we hike long and hard (hot and humid too) to an area where one was reported as having been in. He was there and for the longest time I couldn't find him. I never realized they were small and dainty but once my eyes found the yellow I was there. Thanks for bringing back a great memory.
