Never worked with a lens whose aperture didn't stop down in real time, so live view isn't nearly as useful for judging how the aperture setting will impact the photo (always displays wide open view in the EVF). Not really digging the aperture preview function mapped to a function key, but it is what it is.
This is proving to be a most difficult lens to work with for me, as I'm having a lot of trouble, even on a tripod with IR shutter control, getting what I want sharp and in focus, to be sharp and in focus. Tossed every shot from the first two attempts, and 8 out of 10 shots from the third.
In contrast, most from the 90mm Bokina could be keepers.
I think I'll stick it out a while longer, and try to avoid the draw (convenience) of an AF native-mount gem like the FE 90mm 2.8 G.
If I can get half as good as some here are (Ronny Olsson's stunning work ultimately inspired me to go after this one), I suppose I'll be content. And tips or suggestions are always welcome.
Just played around with cropping an image taken with the new Voigtlander 10mm on the A7RII. The first image was uncropped, 42MP, to avoid perspective distortion I kept the camera level but obviously it included too much of the floor. The second image was heavily cropped from the first one, the image size of the second one is still 19MP! I am happy this 10mm can sort of replace a 17mm TSE lens, for my usage.
I've been paddle camping for four days in Kentucky, came back and worked up two more pics from Iceland, posted on POTN and got a complaint/observation about sense of scale....so here for your review, more from Jokulsarlong:
I continue to be amazed at both the pace of this thread and the quality of the images. The 10mm Voigt images the last several pages have been really neat to see.
Recently returned from a trip to Yellowstone and managed not to get eaten by bears in the process. I am still in a bit of shock from the colors and vastness of the place.
Photo taken about 27 minutes before sunset on August 13, 2015 of a Doe White Tail Deer, Big Meadows, Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. Image heavily cropped and taken with my tripod mounted Canon new FD 500mm f4.5 L lens and my Sony A7r camera, ISO 200, lens set to f4.5 for 1/200 second. Exposure corrected by +0.12 Stops and processed in LR6.
The lens looks good, but I'd forgotten how hard it is to hand hold without IS! Lots of misses due to camera movement at double the old rule of thumb. I need at least 1/800 with these telephotos.
Bought lens from KEH Outlet on eBay for $22, including CA tax and free shipping. Not much to complain about!
I'm expecting the FDn 200/2.8 (v. II, 1.5m MFD) at the end of week. Should be interesting to compare.

Ecarlino...love your Italy grabs! We were in Sicily 6 yes ago. We stayed in just outside old town Ortigia/ Syracusa. There's an outdoor amphitheater in Syracusa that was pretty phenomenal.

thanks!
For those who have never considered Sicily, it is a wonderfully preserved and under-toured island that has enough to see and enjoy (i.e. eat/drink) to merit a month or at least several multi-week visits. Unfortunately, because of the problems in Greece and Northern Africa, a lot of cruise lines are re-routing to Sicily and (at least in Palermo and day-trips from there, e.g. Cefalu) certain places are starting to get crowded. Although, now with the Pound getting DESTROYED, the tourist masses will probably flock to the U.K. for the next year or two. Late May was a great time of year to visit and even Palermo wasn't that bad (worst place was Taormina, but that's to be expected as it's a tourist trap from 10 AM until 5 PM - so that's when we were in nearby smaller villages with no tourists).
I'm visiting Amsterdam on a business trip and had some time to walk around. I was able to spend an hour at the World Photo Press exhibit. All I can say is wow, what emotional photography of the world this past year. I snapped a couple of images inside and created my own 'fine art reportage' of classic Amsterdam. The last is created with the Smooth Reflection app (32 images).
I have been playing around with the old Minolta AF 75-300 using an A7RII and LA-EA1 adapter. The lens is far better than I remember it but it is really heavy for hand held shots. Perhaps the IBIS is the reason for the improvement.
Late afternoon and evening shots from last night. These are 300mm, plus extreme cropping.
