Costa Rica. Nice. Can't wait to see what you bring back, Joshua.
Had one of those terrible photo days today, where nothing works out quite right, the equipment lets me down, my timing is all off and I make things worse by filling up my SD card halfway through the shoot because I forgot to clear it before starting, forcing me to delete everything in order to keep shooting.
Needless to say, I came back home with a card filled with junk pics taken in terrible lighting with no common sense applied.
Chalk it up to a bad day and move on. ...Show more →
That trip was planned like 6 months ago for the first week of July but the volcano eruption there last week may cause a havoc in trip. We will see how things develop.
Yes, those things can happen to anyone. You still can redo it; no problem.
Here is another image from the zoo yesterday. Needless to say, this was taken through glass and the glass was filthy, scratched up and it had a lot water spots. I cleaned it as much as possible in PP and it looked decent.
The lens is a Sony FE 70-300mm that I am considering taking on that trip since it is a zoom and it is a native mount. The AF performance is actually good, it is fairly compact and frankly, I am pleased with the result.
Gregg, you are getting on fine with the L50, lovely images. I like the micro-contrast in the bokeh too, conveys depth effectively, and the hue variations, nothing not to like in fact.
Mine are FE55 and a7r,
Instead of purchasing a Sony 24-70 I decided to bring along my EOS 24-70/4. To me it acts native via the MB T iv, here is a shot on our approach to Husavik-
Photo taken October 4, 2015 at 8:58 AM looking across Heart Lake (Lake owned by the Adirondack Mountain Club), Lake Placid, NY. Image taken with my tripod mounted A7r and my Minolta CLE MC 40mm f2 M-Rokkor lens. ISO 100, lens set to approximately f11 for 1/30 second and exposure corrected by + 0.12 stop. Processed in LR6.
Finalizing my gear selection for Costa Rica
Joshua...Dammit Jim! I thought we discussed this? You need me to carry your luggage?? Right!!
Phillip PJ...I do love the rendering of the Loxia 50. It's a really nice lens. If it was only f1.4, it would be my perfect lens. And thank you!
Jack...nice grabs!
Everyone else...fantastic!

Good to see someone that's happy with the FE 70-300.
So many complaints in the other thread.
I noticed that and I believe it has largely to do with expectation. My intention of getting that lens is to take 3-dimensional images of (semi) wildlife and not of flat objects. In that respect, I care less about corner performance. I am happy as long as the flies render sharp center results to of approximately 80% of the frame, preferably at wide open aperture. And my copy of that lens does and frankly, I am convinced a lot of others do, too. The performance of mine checked out fine even at 300mm. Of course, if I stop down the lens a little it would be better but then I have to sacrifice the ISO or shutter speed. I am still debating whether to take this lens with me or not.
From caged animals at the zoo to running around freely bunnies in Las Vegas. Well, here is one of them, at least. This impromptu portraits was done in front of Bellagio but facing Arc de Triomphe of a willing bunny. Yes, for tips, of course but far, far less than hiring a model .

Great shot , it handled it very well except for the cheap wig. Lol
