i was a bit crabby today, so i decided to just walk around the yard and garage this afternoon and take a few photos of just random stuff (great therapy) w/ the Batis 85 that I'm listing for sale - don't ask me why - what a great lens, but i just feel the need to lug around the anchor (aka 85GM) - decision really feels like teenage lust more than anything.
a7r2, Batis 85 @ f/1.8
outdoor (#1): ISO 100, indoor (#2-4): ISO 800.
Not my lens! My wife just recently graduated from an RX100 IV to a nice used A7R, her first full frame camera. It is just a camera body so she was exploring my lens collection which should be adequate, but was found wanting. She could not find a Macro to her satisfaction. She wanted 1:1 without adapters, auto focus, and image stabilization. The FE 90mm f/2.8 macro arrived today. While she was out on an errand I was able to take a couple of quick shots in the yard and I have to say this is going to be an easy lens to like. I can immediately see the "keeper" rate will exceed any macro I have ever used.
Here is an image taken with the FE 24-70/2.8GM @ 24mm.
I took two images, one at f/8 for the tufas and mountains in the background and another at f/14 for the lake and foreground rocks. Basically I needed more DOF and smoothness for the water. These two images were later combined in post in a very simple process. (The exif will show f/8 only though)
The full size image is very sharp center to edges. At 24mm, this zoom performs like a prime lens with great colors and contrast.
Gregg, thank you The Minolta 80-200/2.8 HS G is an awesome lens. For now it has a home until there is a viable option for the 70-200/2.8 range.
Congratulations everyone on the amazing shots.
Fred your shots with the GM 24-70/2.8 have been awesome!!!
Joshua, love the shots with Sigma 21!
Helena the CV lenses has really excelled in your style of shots. Love them!
Thanks to this thread I checked with DigiDirect this morning in Brisbane and they had a GM85/1.4 in stock There was one of the staff that had been waiting for the Batis 85 so we made a direct trade this morning. I have the GM 85 and he has my Batis 85 plus a few dollars.
In light of the thread, I checked my GM 85 regarding noise in AF and MF mode and there is virtually none! The AF is normal with no issues so I am fortunate in this respect.
Some of test photos in the camera store and outside to make sure there were no issues with noisy AF/MF.
congratulations for your 'new' lens
My better half just added an a6300 and did the same perusal of the rack and found focal length lacking so I pre-ordered the FE 70-300g.
Never mind the fact the adapted 70-400gii and the EOS 300isii work just fine.
Being a hillbilly in the southern Appalachians I am surrounded by this type of landscape. We have a little cabin on a lake high in the mountains and that lake is fed by 8 streams like this one. Over the course of 3 miles there are 20 water falls; within 50 miles of the cabin are over 300 named falls though nothing on this creek has a name.
Anyway, practicing for Iceland-
eye AF is so revolutionary and the A7x series (and a6300 too I might add) has such prowess with it. Funny how fast Sony brought us this innovation.
Now if they would only get up to speed for birds
Late this evening a shot of Marisa chilling out on a Friday evening
With the GM 85 it is preferable to turn the sharpening to "0" in Lr for portraits, lower the contrast by about -10 to -15 and reduce color sat by -5 to -10. Shot with eye AF in low light.
