While waiting for the GM 70-200/2.8, I opted for the Minolta 80-200 f/2.8 HS G lens. I was fortunate in that bought it from Japan in mint+++ condition for 1/3 of the price for a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II.
I did have many reservations about the AF and the size. The lens arrived this morning and it is a lot smaller and lighter than the Canon 70-200/2.8 II. The AF is very fast and locks on accurately in one movement with the LA-EA4, surprisingly so. The AF works really well from 80mm to 200mm. I also suspect the AF is more responsive with 80-200/2.8 than the ZA 135/1.8.
The images are very sharp even wide open. More testing needed.
Very first shot of Marisa with the A7rII and Minolta 80-200 f/2.8 HS G
nehemiahphoto and MedicineMan, thank you guys The Minolta glass in this lens just seems to draw color nuances from flat lighting somewhat like the ZA 135/1.8.
