Derek, do you mind sharing how you processed the second shot? The colors and contrast are exceptional, and despite my efforts I've not had as much success with that as I'd like.
thanks! i mostly just use presets that i've made previously in LR and then do a little tweaking. in this case i used one i made to try and mimic portra film colors and contrast in harsh sunlight. it uses the camera neutral color profile, has a very aggressive tone curve, highlights pulled way back, and shadows lifted a fair bit.
i think what you are seeing in this picture is probably coming more from the scene than anything – strong sun on the foreground trees and mountain with a cloud shadow over the forest between them. here's the same shot with the same b&w processing that i used on the other shot (which was taken in very different light):
Photo taken at 2:08 PM on June 10, 2015 from an overlook in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia, looking over hills and mountains of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Image taken with my tripod mounted A7r and my Leica M 90mm f2.5 Summarit lens, ISO 50, lens set to probably f8 for 1/500 second. Exposure corrected by +0.24 stops. Processed in LR6.
Wow. This thread moves f a s t. Great shots too, I especially liked Ronnys "Before snow" (stunning landscape) and Werners BW photo on the last page.
Greggf, cool photos of a cool truck, I like the first one best. I'm trying hard to resist replacing my cy planar 50/1.7 with the Loxia 50, so against my better judgment... how are you liking it?
This one's with the Planar 50. I don't usually like cooking my photos this much, but some shots seem to just beg for it. I dunno.

Playing with ND and GNDs. This one with the Batis 25/2. 3-stop grad + 0.6 GND
Looks good Bob? Can you give a judgment on which lens you prefer using so far: Batis 25 or Loxia 21? Just curious.

Really too early to tell. I really love them both. I think the Loxia might have deeper color rendition but I really need to put them side by side. It's not something I usually do but I might in this case. It's sometimes hard to beat a Zeiss lens with AF (Batis) but the Loxia 21 is awesome. More thought needed . . . and thanks!
Greggf wrote: Same as above but @f11....which do you like? From our Master of bokeh, definitely the first one at 2.5
Thanks Manuel! I have to agree as well, but the f11 shot isn't bad either!!

Thank you 12ish! If you've been on this thread for any amount of time, you'll know that I've gone through almost every 50 out there(well maybe not all)....I have my preferences, but the Loxia is no slouch, and I love the colors and contrast. Plus, it's very flare resistant, especially since I like shooting into the sun! Fantastic lens, really!
I do like your Planar 1.7 grab. Great comp, and I don't think it's too cooked, as you put it. That planar stopped down is an awesome lens! Keep posting
Bob....the above shot is one of my favs. Incredibly crisp(as I'm sure it was outside as well!) with great colors!
Charles...your goddaughter is beautiful! Great 50L portraits!
Love this thread and thank you everyone for all the likes!!

Against the grain, I went for the Canon 14mm f/2.8 Mark II for an ultra wide angle prime. The main reason is for the speed and yes, the prices of Canon lenses have fallen by quite bit. The size is bigger than the CV 15mm III but not bad and the weight is not much of a difference either but faster. Here are 2 images taken from a recent visit to Rome using that lens.
Joshua...outstanding grab of The Trevi Fountain!! We were there 5 yrs ago. I went out at 11:30pm with my 1D4, Nikon 14-24/2.8 adapted for Canon, and Canon's 24-70/70-200ll(God I wish I had my current setup then!)...trying to shoot the fountain, and I couldn't get a decent shot. Everyone, and I mean everyone and the grandmother was there @11:30pm!!!! On a Monday night no less...
Info have a couple of killer HDR's of the Colosseum, though!!
A couple more random Loxia 50 grabs...
