Went to Brooklyn for the standard Manhattan skyline shots. Yes, I know this spot has been photographed a billion times, but I still wanted shots from there. I'l do more in-city shooting over the next few days after I'm done writing and visiting the show.
A7 II with FE 16-35/4, FE 55/1.8 and FD 85/1.8:
The first shot posted is the last shot of the night, a 2 minute exposure...I started it with my little remote, then promptly lost my grip on the remote, and it fell into the East River. I had to stop the exposure by turning the camera off. Guess I'll swing by B&H and get another tomorrow.
Amazed that these girls stayed almost completely still throughout the entire 30 second exposure:
Great shots Jordan. Did you finally break down and buy the 16-35 FE ?
There is a pretty handy long exposure app for the camera which uses the eye/lcd sensor as a trigger. You just wave your hand in front of it to start the exposure, wave you hand past it again to stop it. Basically gives you a hands free way of triggering the camera in a pinch. I believe its a free one too
I rented it for this trip. I'm going to buy it, but I need to sell my Fuji 10-24 and my FD 20 and 24 first. I didn't have time to sell them before the trip, but wanted to bring the Sony with me, so I just rented it for these few days. Thanks for reminding me of the trigger app. I downloaded it on my a6000, and played with it for a second, but I don't think I've put it on my A7 II yet.

Great shots, Jordan!
This may be a dumb question, but I don't understand how folks do 2 or 5 minute exposures on fairly brightly lit up scenes like this one without blowing out everything.
My city lights (posted a few pages back) shots were anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 seconds tops. And I already struggle with blown highlights on the building spotlights.
Maybe you can help me understand how this works.
Interesting about that app too. I might have to try that out.
Regardless. These are great shots! I need to make it out to NYC one of these days. As a cityscape fan, that's practically the motherlode

Thanks. The 2 minute exposure shot used a 4 stop ND filter. Most of the shots are 25-30 seconds at f/8-f/11.
La Réunion, a small French island outside of Africa's east coast. My partner saw a documentary a couple of years ago and have been wanting to go there ever since. I'm more of an "arctic" kind of person , but it was OK. It's always nice to see new places and the locals were very friendly.
Didn't take many photos though (about 160 in 8 days, which I have weeded down to 90), but here are some of a lava field from the big eruption in 2007. It was interesting to see the plant life starting to inhabit the area again. Getting good angles was difficult because walking on the lava was forbidden (but some people did anyway).
#1-3 are from C/Y 50mm/1.7 and the last Voigtländer 15mm/4.5 III:
