Nothing great about this photo (or any of mine for that matter compared to the others )
But my little boy learned how to take more than a few steps without falling when we were in tahoe .. he approached the back area of the cabin and stopped in awe lookin outside at the tall trees. gave a new dad goosies.

This shot isn't even the lens that did this tho it's his skill level. I don't want to turn this image into a critique but since Corey mentioned something, I would SLIGHTLY slow down the shutter speed just to see more ambient light... Nevertheless, still an amazing image!

+1 Really like the atmosphere although I might like it even better if you could lift the shadows slightly to show a bit more of the theatre!

thanks guys. I understand wanting to see what you cant see which is the rest of the theater but when i was there what I saw didnt add anything to the scene in what I had in my head. My vision was a shot that gave just enough so that you knew where they were, that the theater was empty and that they were sharing a private moment in a commonly not private place. I wanted the focus to be on them hence only enough ambient for the theater lighting to show through with just enough detail from the chairs.
used D800e so lifting the shadows and exposure isnt a problem just not what I had visioned
since my 58G bro's were so encouraging I managed to grab one file from the server that I remember pushing some sliders on. I normally dont include myself in these photos but what the hell...
I should've stopped down a little since we were almost 2.5 peeps deep but I would've lost the swirly. The boys are sharp in front and had to sharpen up a little for the rest. My wife's sister alwasy does this to me LAST minute "oh hey lowell do you mind taking a family photo since we are all here...??" of course im asked same day in the worst possible light (high noon) *so annoyed* grrrrr.... I stalled and managed to get decent light. I did what I could though and I think they liked it...totally impromptu butI think I slid the blues way too strong.

The histogram is contained nicely in the range of the d800 on this photo. I do pull the luminescence down on the blue channel to give the sky a darker appearance. I think I used -25 on this photo. (too much and the edges of foreground objects starts to look funky) The d800 does have a lot of dynamic range, but I can't see any nikon full frame camera not being able to capture that scene exactly the way my D800 did. On some of my landscape shots, I push the image to the max. I always bracket just in case, but have rarely needed to use 2 images or HDR since upgrading to the D800 from my Canon Full frames.
