I'm $700 short so I'll pass this onto you guys; Robert's has a used 200/2 VR for $3617. They have a 10% used gear promo going on right now until Saturday. They have a use anytime promo they sent me after a big purchase from them. Another -7% "USED777".

I almost bought his DF, until my wife said no because I said the DF had the worst AF imaginable
I told him he should dump it before the D750's pop up used and destroy the resale of the DF.
You listen to your wife? Mine barely knows the technical part of photography. I taught her the basics, other than that she nearly killed me for selling the 85G because it was her favorite lens she used. I'm still trying to convince her that 58G is "better"
I don't understand how poeple bash AF on DF. I have absolutely no issues with it and that maybe 'coz I ONLY use the center point & recompose, even on my 58G.
DF and 58G is my favorite combo, ever.

Brings it down to $3027.
I can only afford it if I sell the 58
if i can move my zoom trinity quickly i would be all over this...ugh.

I rented a VRII version last year and I LOVED the lens. As a hobbyist, I wish I had the money for this one...
However, if I was a full time pro or would shoot lots of weddings/events, I would never buy a 200/2.

You wanted to get rid of the Df or 58mm?
I listed my Df for sale. I'm getting a lot of trade offers for a D800/E but I don't need/want 36mp. I'm kinda leaning towards just keeping it and get used to the ergonomics.
Jason, I don't think used D750's will 'destroy' the resale value of the Df. They're totally different cameras targeted for different audiences. The interesting part is I'm also getting a lot of offers from rangefinder/mirrorless shooters (Leica, Fuji, Oly..) I think this is the kind of audience that this camera appeals to. Sadly I'm not into mirrorless.
I love the Df and it's very fun to play with, but I want some similarity on my cameras, esp the controls.

Throw that pig in A priority, auto-iso, and chug away. Screw the controls.

I say do it. The 200mm F2 is the creme of the crop. That is a great price on a fantastic lens and it is more magical than the 58mm despite it not being an everyday lens like the 58mm.
I guess it depends on what kind of price you can used for your 58mm....

The 200/2 is awesomesauce for weddings and will give you that unique 'look' that 70-200 can't, especially at long distances and very busy BGs. Thing is, if you're also lugging a 70-200 it can get to be too much. The good thing about it is that it almost doesn't lose value. I've had mine for almost 3 years now and it's still selling for the same price I paid for in 2012!
Btw, I did some comparison shots between the 200 f/2 and 58 1.4G wide open. They are strikingly similar in terms of subject iso, albeit the 58 doesn't 'magnify' backgrounds as much due to its shorter FL. But the rendering and 3D effect is very similar.

As much as I'm foaming at the mouth for the 200/2 at that price, I can't justify selling my bread and butter lens for it.

You go shoot an image with 70-200 at 200mm f/2.8 and the same exact one with 200 at f/2.0 and ask your client if they can see the difference... They wont.
So ask yourself: do you want that tiny difference in rendition/quality or a missed moment at the wedding just 'coz you didn't have the zoom?
When I was single and was shooting Canon back in 2012, I ALMOST bought a 200 f/2ISII. But I did a TON of research and ended up keeping the 70-200ISII.
All I know is I'm glad it's been a hurry up and wait week at work because between this thread, Joseph teasing me with DF prices, and $2k burning a hole in my pocket,;the internet has been too much
