Spiralling out of control... by micke vmix, on Flickr
D500 at F1.4 The end of the straw doubled up a bit. I guess it's the nature of the lens playing in here...

Z8 at F2.0 with 12mm tube
I think this Z8 + FTZ + 12mm tube + 58 combo will stay on for a while with the small flowers. The 50/1.4 Planar will live on the D500.
@lifeandmylens thank you for these comparison pictures, very adorable little model as well
It is pretty amazing that the 58G fares so well against the 58 noct, although the 58G can be a bit finicky with nailing focus in close up shooting, especially wide open.
What inferences did you make, if you don't mind me asking.
Some great images in this thread which are really feeding into the feeling I might try the 58mm G.
I'd guess what I'v really come to value is a lens which can provide subject isolation with smooth out of focus transitions even in very busy woodland environments were I often end up using it. I'v had the Nikon 105mm DC for years which i think does this pretty well but in the last year I'v added the Zeiss 35mm F/1.4 Milvus which to my eye gives a similar kind of look below F/2.8.
I'd guess the 58mm isnt going to have the stopped down performance of the Zeiss but then again its about 1/3 the weight of it and the focal length is that bit further from it than my current 50mm's(Zeiss 50mm F/2 Makro and Tokina 50mm 1.4 Opera).
