Did you apply any filters on these images? Reason I ask it because they look way to soft. Just wondering.
This lens is really soft at mfd but have a special "look" that I like. And yes, the in-focus areas and out of focus areas are treated differently in Capture One.

Lovely images, just wondered, the copy I had I do not recall being that soft.
I was browsing my photo library not too long ago and came across many images shot whit this lens on the Dƒ. I sold off most Nikon gear when deciding to mirrorless only with Fuji (before Z-series were around). Anyhow, it made me realise how much I missed the 58. So I just ordered another one. Don't have any Nikon digital body though so it will start off on a film body and on a Fuji body via a dumb adaptor. My thinking is trying to score a cheap D750 down the line. Love this thread.
I found a really good reference site for the 58mm 1.4g. 1800 photos of professional wedding photographers.. https://mywed.com/de/analytics/lens-view/?lens=AF-S+Nikkor+58mm+f/1.4G&page=88
It is according to the userbase numbers one of the most used lenses from the nikon system for weddings. I think for weddings photographers this lens isn't as polarizing as anywhere else.
I'd have to sell off my z 35mm / 85mm to get this one.

Thanks!!
No tubes, just bare on the D500. This lens just creates artsy stuff by itself....
Haruo Sato knew what he created!!!
Agreed, it has long been my favourite lens in my bag. Besting some stellar lenses including the 300mm F2.8, 200mm F2 & 105mm F1.4 imo. Obviously, everyone will have their own preferences but the 58mm is stellar!
I just pulled the trigger and striked a great deal on ebay for the lens. After looking through 10000 of pictures it was just a matter of time for me owning one... Kinda feel bad though that I have to sell my native Z lenses for now since I got to the system because of them( losing the sleekness and wr...).
People here say you have to learn all the quirks of this lens. Could someone elaborate on this on a little bit? What are the quirks and the workaround?
I know already the issue of the minimum focus distance and sharpness, but for people that is a non issue. I would stop down anyways.
