Very interesting. Did you shoot wide open or did you shop down?
I had never thought of using my 58mm for this, the 14-24mm being my goto lens for Milky Way images.

Splendid image!
the 58 is primary designed for night photography as it has extremely good coma correction....

Thank you. This was shot wide open at f/1.4. I wish I thought of this a long time ago!
I’ve only had this lens for a few weeks now, but I’ve started to get used to it, and really love it. I bought it after seeing so many fantastic photos on this thread.
Not the usual use of this lens but hey it counts right? :P This is a 53 image panorama of the Milky Way taken with the 58mm f/1.4G. I usually shoot wide angle lenses (Nikon 20mm f/1.8G is my choice for Milky Way) but I wanted to see what would happen if I used my 58mm due to its large aperture. And the detail that this brings out compared to my 20mm is mindblowing... I think I might have found my new astro lens?
Pretty spectacular!
53 images? Thats quite some doing... do you crop the images prior to stitching them together or how do you combat the little sagittal coma flare the lens has at the edges with wide apertures?
EDIT: Is there something wrong with the quote reply on the forum? When I click quote the quoted message doesn't post although it appears in the reply. The above has additional pasted text to show the quoted text.
The weather was depressing in Swakopmund over the weekend so I drove 20km out into the desert one afternoon.

I didn't crop the photos before stitching nor did i do anything to manually correct for the sagittal coma flare in post. With the 53 images I did have a lot of overlap in the images, so it's possible that my overlap in the photos essentially corrected for the flare.
