I have been fighting with this lens for the past several weeks. Just wasn't getting consistent focus and was getting incredibly frustrating. Thankfully my local camera shop had FoCal and they were able to save this thing for me. I was sooo close to selling it. Now, I'm sooo happy I didn't. I love the focal length and should be my go to lens, but I was terrified to use it. Should be good to go now.
I used to own one of these until my gear got stolen. However I did not replace it when I got my insurance check for my gear. I found it to be much to soft wide open, even with live view focus. Always had to use f/2.8. Now I use Zeiss Milvus lenses. Yeah I know they are manual focus, but I can manual focus my Zeiss lenses better than most who use auto focus.
Anyway, I’m glad you got it working great for your camera. It’s a nice lens, but not nice enough for me to buy again.

The 58G is a complex lens to calibrate but truly worthwhile the effort
Not the usual use of this lens but hey it counts right? :P This is a 53 image panorama of the Milky Way taken with the 58mm f/1.4G. I usually shoot wide angle lenses (Nikon 20mm f/1.8G is my choice for Milky Way) but I wanted to see what would happen if I used my 58mm due to its large aperture. And the detail that this brings out compared to my 20mm is mindblowing... I think I might have found my new astro lens?
