For most of this years wedding season, I thought the 105E was an essential tool.
I really tried to use it a lot but the truth to the matter is... a 58mm should have been the longest FL I should've used.
I would've avoided the lens-changing hassle or the constant debate on which lens to use.
what i like about the FL of the 58 is, that you can be close to your subject and still have the pop out from the background and decent environment capture...sometimes i feel i can shoot the complete event with it
I meant trying to tame this lens. I sold the first one (field curvature, AF difficult) but I made the "mistake" to keep watching this thread. So another one has arrived and the results on D810 and D850 are better than the first one I used on D800. I don't know why, perhaps a better sample... Thanks
i need to send mine in for re calibration. it has never been right after I dropped it 2 years ago. its been serviced for the drop but still has never been sharp like it was when I first got it. I still use it though and get shots that I love.
Used the 105 and 58 for my sons 4 year session, used the heck out of the 58 and just love the way it renders light and colors in the bokeh. it has a certain richness that I dont get with the sigma 35 or 50 1.4 or even the 105 sometimes.

I agree with your sentiments about the 58, it has something that makes me want to keep using it.
