Correct me if I'm wrong here, but unless you're planning to print 30 inch prints on a regular basis, the 58mm 1.4G should be perfectly fine on the D850 once your final edits are down-res'd and share on the typical mediums (web, social media, smaller prints, etc.). Wouldn't a

Even then, I have printed a few shots with the 58mm @ F1.4 sized at 20x30" and they turned out great.

Here is one with the D850 + 58mm @ F1.4.

I have printed my engagement shot at f/1.4 on a D3s (12mp) on a 24x36 size canvas.
It was sharp to my surprise, never mind the client; they were in love with the canvas!

The Nikon 28 1.4e, 58 1.4g, and 105 1.4e all perform admirably on the D3s. So does the original 24-70 2.8. I'm am not a wedding photographer, but for beautiful photos that are not obscenely enlarged, this is a great setup...

I've been trying out the 58G and 50ART for the last few months, 58G is the winner

Literally the first shot of a person I took with this lens got me my first ever individual exhibition.

I bought it yesterday. Took a bunch of photos of my dog and inanimate objects. Brought it out today to do some street shots. Stopped off at the cafe I'm a regular at. Took a shot of a gentleman there. This was literally the first ever person shot with the lens. While I was showing it to him the manager comes around, sees it, and asks me to do an exhibition at the cafe this spring.

I don't have anywhere to post images to, so unfortunately I can't show it, but it was a nice 1.4 portrait.

I've been able to easily use these focal length: 24/35/85/135/70-200mm but I have always found 50mm to be somewhat challenging. Is the 58mm slightly easier to use?

It would seem you are a 35mm FOV shooter rather than the 50, so the 58mm will be harder to use.

Done a brief comparison with Mr. Reliable, the 50 1.8g.

With boths lens set at the same f1.8 aperture, shutter speed and ISO, 58mm is noticeably brighter. Probably about half a stop. Good light transmission and low vignet.

Tho, focus speed and consistency is better on 50 1.8g. Bokeh need no elaboration. Sharpness comparison unnecessary 😬

One sentence to rule it all..

58 is a lens with soul.
