Another test with my girl. It's unretouched so that the falloff characteristics of the lens can come through.
The more I shoot it, the more the lens pisses me off. I definitely like the results, but I'm genuinely upset that I have to pay over a grand more than the 50.4G to get an extra 8mm and a little smoother bokeh. At first you think it's something you may be able to get away without having. But then you compare the results side by side, and you cringe at the thought of going without that extra 8mm of compression and smooth bokeh.
Nice contributions to the image thread everyone. The df and 58mm are my go to combo 85% of the time, here are some from this weekend with family in Mt.Rainier where we camped/hiked Paradise trail and celebrated baby Daniels bday.
@Dj R, I'm counting on you to post photos from the wedding that you took with the 58. I have mine up for sale currently, but I'm considering pulling it. You convinced me to buy it. Help me keep it!
I have about 11 more weddings on the books for this year. I may evaluate it some more this coming week on a couple of shoots
How long have you had it. And what are the reasons for selling it?
Will do

About a week. I've had virtually every portrait lens there is, and this is honestly among the best. But it's a 50-ish lens. I own the 35 and 85, so this is slightly awkward. It makes me have to choose. Plus it's a really expensive 50. I'd pay $1,500 for a fast 35 or 135 before plunking that much down on a 50-esque lens. Heck I hardly use my 135 Art, except for larger churches, but I still would sell this before even thinking of letting go of the 135.

If you are still undecided in a couple weeks...
yea, I would def return it before 30 days are up.
if you have 35/85, I don't think you need the 58
only if you didn't like 85.
35/85 is great
28/58 is great
the 58, hmmm, I think you need to be a 5.5' minimum. or you be soft, even in the center.
I haven't shot much with this lens in the past month until yesterday
and I got 3 hrs sleep last night and had a busy day again today.
so I may not be making sense.

You don't need any convincing If you are not a 50mm shooter then the 58 will probably not suit. Personally I much prefer 50's and I find to very hard love 35mm lenses, but I do love 28mm as it gives you a very different look.
Shots from Pontevedra, Spain. I do love the D810 with the 58G, particularly for the DR in good lighting.
