A bit of help with regards to back focusing. I'm on my second copy. I sold the first when I moved away from Nikon (before going back again), and for the life of me I can't seem to fine tune the 58 @ 1.4. My first copy didn't need AF Tuning, but this second one seems to back focus quite a bit wide open.
I've read that this lens is a bit soft at MFD, and that may be what I'm seeing, however, I have a few shots wide open where the subject was roughly 15 feet away and the focus is in front of the subject (back focusing). Are there any tips for AF Tuning this specific lens? Would the LV AF Tune be the best bet for this lens? My shots at f/2 and smaller aperture seem fine, just the wide open shots are soft and in front of the subject a bit. An AF Tune of +5-15 doesn't seem to help.

I purchased my 58G used and the fine tune AF was at +20 slightly more. I sent my copy back to Nikon to be fully readjusted and the correction now is +10. Apparently this is quite normal according to the manager at the Nikon service center. I suspect your copy is out of the range of adjustment so it would need a trip to the service center.
