When I hear "3D pop" I think about the 58mm 1.4G and Zeiss lenses. Can someone explain to me what that is apart from normal separation from a fast aperture?

Just look through this thread....you'll get it
From comparing shots taken with the 58G compared to the 50mm f/1.4G I can tell there's a difference but contrast, falloff, and bokeh is too simple describe it. I can't quite put it to words which frustrates me.

Spoon boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Spoon boy: There is no spoon.
Neo: There is no spoon?
Spoon boy: Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.
^^^That's the most brilliant way to describe the 58G I ever saw!

That's the point - nobody can. Nikon sprinkled some magical fairy dust over the glass of this lens. When you dial the aperture to f/1.4, it's like hitting a "character switch". Stopped down it's still great, but at f/1.4 it just shines.
Let's post some pictures, shall we? One more from the couple I posted earlier:
I couldn't resist anymore and had to get me one. Hoping I have the patience and persistence to get to a level of the images posted in this thread. Obligatory first shots of my dog to test this bad boy out.
