@ Nikol - Great photos! Looks like you spend your winters much the same way we do in Canada! We have "spark" (kicksled we call them) from Finland that we use all the time. Hasn't taken off here in Canada like over there though!

Looking pretty dapper!
Shot from this summer. Going through older photos.
I mean, I'm not sure I've seen any lens which doesn't appear to have enough resolution in a 1000 pixel web preview (which is why I don't even bother looking when these companies release sample images for a new lens).
Who's made large prints with this lens? Did it change your opinion?

I did. And it looks AMAZING. I printed a 24x36 canvas, and yes, only at f/1.4! Here it is in my studio (might look small because this was shot at 14mm on full frame)
Hi guys, few seeks ago I discovered this thread and this intriguing lens. Now I have already read 100 pages. You should be ashamed, now I do want this lens! In addition to my trinity zoom (24-70, 70-200/2.8 and 200-500), I mainly switch between my 50/1.4 because it's my favorite focal length and the 85/1.4D, because I love the wide open rendering. However since I got the 70-200, the 85 is not used that much...
So what do you think, sell the two primes and buy a used 58 (if I can find one) or even sell the 24-70 to get a new one?
There are so many incredible photos here but I would like to highlight the ones from Hardcore, Elijah and Chester. You are guilty for that GAS!
It's been said earlier in this thread, but that is such a good example of this lens showcasing one of the things is does best: subjects more distant while still creaming up the background in a lovely, unexpected way. Such a signature thing with this lens.
Sell both and buy a 58. I sold my 85 because it got almost no use after I bought a 58mm. 70-200 was good enough to cover the missing focal length.
I sold my 24-70...then recently bought another one. I use the two lenses for different things so that's how I justify having both.

so i'm obviously going to have to re adjust the AF Fine tune on this lens. After the repair performed at APS its not as good as it was. before even after numerous drops, the lens was tack sharp. I told them to perform any repairs from damage they may have seen and they said there wasnt much and just adjusted the CLOSE FOCUS of the lens. should have just told them to leave it alone.
Maybe the D800 also getting a new lens mount is throwing it off. I adjusted this lens on a tripod at a focus chart using the DOT TUNE focus method and live view. i didnt like doing the test at the suggested distance, it was too far away so i adjusted the fine tune with the lens at the closer distances i normally use it with kids which is about 3 -4 feet. it passed dot tune just fine and looked sharp in camera.
when i use it on people focusing on the eye at the same distances, the focus is just soft overall. ill have to readjust it with people next time but im thinking no matter what its just going to be soft at close distances and it bothers me because i had a copy that was sharp at close distances which isnt the norm i know but it was nice.
Heres a shot and i fully expect the camera left eye to be OOF since the head is turned but that camera right eye is just too soft for me even at this distance.
I will have to test it. I dont photograph in live view, only fine tuned in live view but I see where you are going with this. I will do some comparisons and actual photographs in live view compared to through the view finder and see the differences.
