Some shots from yesterday. I'm still not sure it is worth replacing the sigma as my favorite 50mm (for the price), but it is a nice lens.
Obviously I'm asking a bit biased crowd but I'm debating between a whole slew of 50's and I keep loving all the images in this thread. I sold off my old 50 1.8D and was planning on just going with a 35 1.8G and the 85 1.8G but I keep coming back to the 50 length. The one thing that keeps me from crossing this lens of the list is the "character" that this lens has.
I've read that the post processing with this lens is minimal, is that true for the photos in this thread or are you all still putting in the same amount of time with it. Tell me I'm crazy to contemplate buying this lens when I don't do any professional work and the majority of pics I would take with this lens would be of my infant.

I post process this lens as I do with any other. Your not crazy to want this lens for personal use as long as you can afford it, why not? This lens for me is almost the perfect focal length for people. 85mm was too long and the 35mm was too short. I find 58mm is perfect. If you can't afford it, then grab a 50mm F1.8g or the 85mm F1.8g. Both are fantastic lenses in their own right. I have owned both of those and they are really good lenses but they are definitely a step behind the 58mm.

I can afford it, it's just when it's spoken out loud that I could get this lens or spend $1000 less on the 50 1.8, it makes me think I'm completely nuts!

Keep in mind, there's an assload of extremely talented folks in this thread that make this lens absolutely shine.
I have 3 young kids and almost all of my pictures are of my kids.
I personally wouldn't buy this lens mainly for infant pictures. It's not very sharp when shooting wide open at the minimum focus distance, which is where most of your pictures will probably be taken.
However, when your kid starts walking and you have some shooting distance, the lens comes alive. It's a great family picture lens, too.

Just get a Sigma 50 non-art for 300 or less used. I don't think I'll be able to pick out my 58mm shots from the sigma 50 when I go back and look at them later in life.

She's a few months old but she'll be mobile before I know it, which is when I figured this lens would be used the most.
