I'm arguing that they likely have a long term plan in place and are working on numerous different areas at one time. That plan is likely based on what aspects they feel are most important to the vast majority of potential customers. It is obvious that the Olympics and high profile sport shooters are still a huge focus, regardless of how much or little that R&D cost gets paid back by those shooters. A camera is more than a sensor and a company is more that one niche product. If 95% of people are happy with a 5D3 sensor, is it really in their best interest to put huge resources to match the Sony sensor as quickly as everyone here would like? They are obviously testing high MP sensors and have other developments like DPAF. So they aren't sitting still, just not moving as fast as the FM forum people would like. ...Show more →
So then you agree with my point that they should be working on innovations now and not waiting until they start to lose market share?
I'm just trying to figure out what point you are trying to refute. That the competition has been more innovative than Canon in recent years? That being indifferent to what your competition is doing is a bad strategy?

"A long while" is not equivalent to "stopping development". None of us are privy to that development cycle and we don't have any idea what issues they are dealing with in rolling out new sensor technology. A far bigger mistake for them to do is release a new sensor not ready for primetime. Their market share gives them the luxury of time to make sure they get it right.
I've seen far too many rushed software releases in the form of a stealthy beta.
I agree completely with all of that, and in fact I think I said as much in previous posts.
So here again, I'll ask what point I made that you are wanting to refute?

Funny that some are so eager to label people and make accusations. I guess when the arguments can't cut it, resort to labelling and creating division that way.
I'm lost here. What exactly is this arguement you are talking about? We are discussing the A7R with Canon lens right. If not...then maybe the argument needs to go elsewhere, this topic is about using the new Sony with Canon lens...which many on this forum has a lot of interest...including Fred himself.

Quick questions, if you have the chance to answer:
I'm going to be in Tokyo next week, will they have available A7 and A7r stock? Can I change the menu to English (or are the Japanese versions locked)? They're available in Singapore now, but I'd have to pay my dealer a good $300 more then what you've just paid, so....
Also 55 1.4 available yet?
Where to get M-adapters in Japan?
Thanks!
In Tokyo, many stores have a lot of stock for both A7 and A7r, but they are all Japanese versions. As far as I know, Sony is the only company that locks the menu language with their Japanese versions, super old-fashioned, at least 15 years behind Canon and Nikon in that sense. The export model is not available yet here. I assume they will be available on the EU/US release date. Most cameras and lenses are generally cheaper in Japan (check: kakaku.com) except for Sony's export models which are priced similarly to B&H.
55/1.4 is not available yet. I got my Metabones adapter online from their site.

This thread is about new imaging vision from A7(r) with Canon lenses. And most pics posted here is not shot with Canon lenses. I don't mind seeing pics from the new Sony camera. But why post them here if it's not even a Canon lens?

It's about their sensors performance....without test available images, how do we know they are worth to be adapted into our EOS system or not.

Because many of us have both Canon and non-Canon lenses and are interested in the A7r using these lenses. Does it somehow hurt this thread posting an image taken with the A7r using a Zeiss lens?

I have decided to buy the A7R and the EF lens adapter. It will be my main 35mm FF camera for architecture and landscape. I will keep the 5D3 for everything else including it's use as my main camera during film and commercial production photography (inside a sound blimp). I will use it mostly with the 14mm L II, the 24TSE II and the 35L or 50L.
The extra dynamic range will save me HUGE time in post since I would be able to do mostly single image captures and lighten up the shadows in post. I rented a D800E and tested this and the difference is huge. There is also the resolution advantage which is significant but I only need that mostly for Landscapes.
