+1, best of all this twin A7(r) now serve as cross platform bodies which takes any lenses that you can throw at them by competition, this in turn will reduce the lens cost as well.
Why would it reduce your lens cost? You already have hundreds of lenses in Canon mount. Why would it reduce your lens cost to buy many different lenses, so you also need 4-5 different adapters?

Seems to me not only do Canon have to deliver updated sensor technology, but the Sonys also establish that the cost of full frame bodies needs to come down.
Full frame bodies have arguably had an excessive price premium too long.

I don't want a Sony at all. I am positive Canon will in the next 6 months release a few products that will appease most.
You know, I was also very critical against Sony from past experience. I never liked the way that they always had to develop their own standards where it was hard to connect it with other stuff (I remember Sony's memory cards in the early P&S cameras for example which no other brand used or the original MD/mini disc players).
This is the first time that Sony seems to go a different direction - seeing a market gap and trying to exploit it. The camera currently fills this niche especially for still and landscape/architecture/fine art photographers. But personally I am also waiting and want to see more 1:1 comparisons between photos taken with the A7(R) and existing Canon gear and lenses before I make a decision to get one of those.

Hello Sven
"But I can't understand why " the Sonys also establish that the cost of full frame bodies needs to come down
And if Canon don't release a FF that is significantly cheaper than the 6D. Then you will buy a Sony that is not significantly cheaper than the 6D"
Well I know you can shop around for price, but taking one well known UK dealer's prices:
6D £1475
A7 £1299
Bearing in mind the 6D is now discounted as the early adopters have gone, the A7 price will also drop in time to be even cheaper.
Bottom line: Sony have effectively lowered the market price for a top of the line FF sensor. Canon's future releases need to reflect this new reality. A month ago I would have to accept whatever Canon asked for a full frame body, now I can opt to go Sony. Real choice, and I fully expect Canon will rise to the challenge, perhaps late 2014

Absolutely - this is one of the main messages since introduction of the A7R. Costs for any FF camera is now dropping - also in the future. Times to pay above $3K for a new FF camera other than 1D series maybe even with a high MP sensor are past.

Don't count on that...
How about a 5D Mk IV with 42MPx sensor? Do you really think that would cost less than a 5DIII?
I suspect you refer to the outrageously high introductory price of the MkIII when it first hit the market. Clearly I can't see any 5D-like FF camera being listed as high from the beginning regarding current competition and alternatives. If we look at the current price the MkIII realistically goes for ($2600-$2700), I see this as a valid range for a brand new high MP/high DR Canon camera without AA filter. And the longer Canon waits, the lower this price will be .

Don't you think the cost of superior AF would affect price?
Nops. This method didn't work out already so well for Canon in the MkIII model and pricing. The MkIII's AF is a done deal, it is standard from now on in the 5D series. It's nothing new to pay a surcharge for. I also expect WiFi capability in a new future 5D IV model included - all is no additional cost factor.

You know you should stop with your erroneous claims that the 5d3 pricing was wrong.
Sony just released a camera with a 2yr old sensor that is worse than the D800 and shitty AF and battery life and very expensive and slow native glass for $2300. I don't see that having much impact on FF pricing of real semi-pro DSLR bodies. Canon also released a low cost FF and are hitting that market. They won't be combining the 6d and 5d lines. I'd fully expect the next 5d series to be above 3k again.

"worse than the D800"?
That sounds a little strong, exactly how much worse? Also, I think battery life is somewhat due to the form factor and EVF. The hit on battery life might be the trade off with current technology.
The strengths and weaknesses are more of a personal thing. I'm a landscape shooter....so things like AF, fast glass, battery life, etc take a backseat to DR, resolution. For a sports shooter, for example, you'd get a different answer in terms of what is important.

Don't forget the 7r is going to show weaknesses of the Canon lens line up, just as Nikon had to release a list of acceptable lenses for the 800.
Most notably will be any Canon 50mm, after that I think Canon is good.
