Apparently not. Even on their site it says: "ships next business day" (for the A7r)

But the A7 is "Usually ships in 7- 14 business days."

I think I will do some SLR testing just as excuse to invade their kingdoms

I just got the LA-EA3 and a very neatly engineered piece it is. Apparently the LA-EA4 (a $350 piece that weighs only 160g) transforms AF leaving very few a7 series users disappointed.

Smart marketing by Sony as they will substantially build the A mount from first half 2014, so they can get some 'cross flow' for studio and outdoor/travel users wanting the same lenses on a DSLR and a small pocket rocket, for the still significant installed base using Minolta/Sony/ZA lenses.

But in all the years users were wanting more than the handful of ZA A mount lenses, never did Zeiss commit to a range of own brand manual focus lenses - their heartland.

They did so for FE at least a month before the release date. I think they know where the future is heading. The critical reception to the cameras will only strengthen their resolve.

i'd cancel the AC charger order if i were you. it's the same battery as the NEX uses. just get a NEX AC charger from another vender.

i've got 3 laying around the house, at least one has never been taken out of the plastic... surely they must be widely available somewhere near you.

Like sebboh, I have 3 NEX chargers and given that the A7R uses the standard NP-FW50 battery there's no point waiting for the new Sony charger. You can always reorder the new model charger when it comes into stock and then you'll have two, which is very convenient.

so you have to buy the AC adapter separately? That's pretty crappy if so.

Just saying, the battery charges to 100% in under an hour with USB connection. I use the RX100 USB charger that gives 1500 mAh which is three times the capacity of the a7/a7R charger, but I don't know if it's needed for fast charging. Anyhow, this means you can charge several batteries in-camera reasonably fast.

My original NEX-5 came with a charger. I was pretty surprised when the NEX-6 I recently purchased for my girlfriend didn't. But I'm astonished they did this even with the three-times-as-expensive A7/r.

It's always been my theory that the customer loyalty you lose by "nickle-and-dime"-ing outweighs the few pennies saved on supply costs. Shame to see Sony disagree.

On the other hand the NEX-6 is built so drastically better than the original NEX-5 that even without the charger it's a better value.

Dereck and Genji,

Thanks. I will consider it. I did want the new AC adapter. But, I suppose that I could cancel the adapter or have them remove it from the order and have it sent later. The info for the adapter indicates that "it features a USB port to enable the charging of other devices, including camcorders and other cameras". I am not sure if that would allow me to plug in the battery in the camera and charge the one in the camera and the one in the AC adapter at once (probably not is my guess).

I have 3 extra batteries coming with the camera and the Sony Semi-Hard LCD Screen Protector which are all in stock.

Doug,

The camera comes with a AC-UB10 AC Adapter to charge the camera battery when it is in the camera.
