If you are shooting Zeiss ZE lenses on the A7r with the Metabones Smart Adapter you can choose between open aperture focusing or stop down focusing, see this post:

Thanks, have been following this thread but missed that post, maybe subscribed too late to thread. However link posted gives just "404 Page Not Found", but I understand Metabones concept based on chat available about topic.
However I would prefer to understand cameras operation in A- and M-modes, and when switching from one to another. Because wide open is not always optimal or even feasible (focus shift, contrast wide open etc.). Also rather important for me since I mostly use Zeiss ZE lenses, and have just few lenses with physical aperture ring (Contax&Leica R) in actual use.
Metabones wide open focus would work well for Otus and 2/135 - so I might be able to work around the issue (if A- and M-modes share aperture setting) by using A7(R) only for these lenses and use 5DmkII bodies for lesser quality lenses. I'm anyway getting (if I get one) A7(R) so that I can have 3 bodies with 3 lenses in camera bag available for shooting and never need to change lens on field again. [currently carrying 2x 5DmkII with lenses + extra 1-2 lenses everywhere, so adding one small camera body doesn't really add volume or weight in my use]

Regarding the f/4 wide-angle zoom on the horizon, the fact that the SEL1018 nearly covers full-frame at 11mm and up makes me think they could probably scale that lens up just slightly and create a really very nice UWA f/4 OSS zoom. Maybe 12mm to 24mm?
There's a big difference between a lens projecting a 43mm image circle and a lens delivering reasonable sharpness across a 43mm image circle. My experience of shooting the Canon 10-22 on full frame was that the corners were unacceptably soft even stopped down...

About B&H's stock of the FE 35mm: I had pre-ordered the A7 with the 35mm 2.8 from Amazon about a week and a half after it was announced. After seeing on SAR last night that B&H had the 35mm lens in stock I quickly ordered one from their site and canceled my Amazon pre-order (of the lens only). This morning I received an email saying my order has shipped and the expected delivery date is only about a week away.

A) Do A-mode (aperture priority) and M-mode (manual mode) remember the last aperture used in that mode OR will the aperture be same in both modes? *

A7r is in the house: Aperture will be the same in both modes.

Twoeye, thank you! Now go and enjoy shooting - or read manual while charging battery

Hmmm… 17photo has A7R backordered. Hope that's not reflective of other places. The most I could get from Bestbuy was a December 3rd-10th delivery, though the person on the phone didn't sound like they really new anything beyond what some computer screen said (no info on whether it was in their warehouse already).

Woohoo... got a notification from Henry's that my A7r shipped.
Hopefully other people in Canada get theirs soon too!
I got the same shipping notification from Henry's. And Vistek is also expecting units to arrive within the next 2 days. Speaking of Vistek, they have a pretty nice kit deal going on the A7R+LA-EA4 for $2474 CAD:

I love it. Here in the USA, we will be dead last to enjoy these new electronics. It sure is fun... watching you guys across the globe enjoy these awesome new cameras.

I'm still expecting to be dead last, which is kinda funny given the cameras likely landed in Port of Vancouver and zinged through my back yard on the way to Toronto and NYC.
Seeing that Vistek A7r/LA-EA4 package deal I'm tempted to cancel my order with my local Sony Store, or at least push them to match. I don't have any Alpha mount glass but can see it being a possibility.

Encouraging. At least it's in a couple of places in the US. I'm getting the A7R though, so I'll be excited to see that show up stateside. Truth be told, a week or two isn't going to make a big difference. It's just seeing the excellent sample images from everyone else is giving me an itch to get my hands on this camera
