I still couldn't find any min shutter speed setting like on the Fuji and Nikon on the Sony, just like their entire RX series, urgh... So I resorted to M and let ISO ride, not ideal. Good luck convincing Sony to add it.
Hrm, this is disappointing. WTF is so hard to understand about auto ISO with user-defined minimum SS?

Yawn. It's a stunning camera. Take pictures, end of.
5 years ago you wouldn't be discussing this tosh. You'd argue over fps and ISO. It's like you're trying to find any minor detail possible to debate.
Fact is both A7's are astonishing. Peeps, they're full frame interchangeable lens cameras that can take practically any lens (with adaptor), fit in the palm of your hand, have 24mp and 36mp sensors (I mean, seriously wtf), and have been launched at very respectable price points.
Let's get real here. Damn.
Truer words etc.
People are going insane picking over details here.

I suppose it's a measure of the degree of success that third order shortcomings are being discussed indignantly - *before the camera is even released*. Auto ISO, yeah I remember how well that worked back in the days that inspired the Nikon DF, those days of simplicity and grace that so many are hearkening for.
These trifling matters get amplified and displace photographic concerns, little things like: weight, bulk, multi-platform capability, SOA EVFs, sensors, ergonomics, build quality, image quality, reliability, etc. I would rather work around auto ISO issues than being bound to one maker's lenses, for example. Not even close to the same priority. At the end of the day, 'buy something else with what you need, lots of fps or configurable auto ISO or locking dials or whatever' is the advice some people might need to hear.
Or, an alternative is to go and read the hassles Leica are putting their owners through with all the electronic quirks and bugger-ups...one can definitely get some valuable perpective that way. Here is a taster:
'The camera shutter goes unresponsive every 100-300 clicks. I end up having to restart the camera to bring it back to life. When I review images already shot and use the exposure compensation wheel to zoom in, I occasionally see a purple cast over the zoomed-in image. The purple cast is not part of the image file itself, and it goes away after a reboot.'
and
'So off it went. Again. Stuff happens. It came back in a less impressive three weeks and now did not freeze at all, even after three days. The photos however now had that green line, at all iso values.'
Or - are the expectations different for a Sony costing a third the asking price, just maybe? Feel free to point out concerns, like those cited above, when they happen with a A7r. I have only respect for Leica, but TBH I could not take one out into the wilderness due to these kinds of issues. I doubt it will happen to the a7r however, and the auto ISO will become an ongoing issue of huge importance. You know it all makes perfect sense...

BTW, if you go to a Sony store, in Canada, and get a senior manager to help you, pre-ordering lenses can be done. I did so this morning for both the 35 and 55 mm lenses
Yup. I'm way ahead of you there. Maybe. ;-0
While I have no hard confirmation of this, I've been told by someone at Sony in a position to know that they track fully paid orders separately from the rest of pre-orders with little or some cash down and the prepaid orders get priority in fulfilment. Don't ask me if one can jump ahead in the line simply by fronting all the cash... surely they aren't that mercenary (?). As I'd heard A7r was outselling A7's by a large margin even weeks ago, I paid in full for the a7r and 35/55 FE lenses to hopefully avoid waiting until next year.
Will it work? Did I need to? Guess we'll find out soon.
PS, I was assured that I certainly could cancel my order and be reimbursed, not that I've since felt a need for such action.

True, things get amplified over some trifling matters, but I think to counter-point that, it's because many of these issues are trifling to implement and would do nothing but help photographers.
Let's take minimum SS using auto ISO. This could be, quite literally about 50 characters of firmware code.
The question then remains, why would Sony (or hell, anyone?) refuse to implement such a trivially-easy, yet immensely useful feature?
Plus, one could argue since "trifling" is subjective, some of these features may in fact be extremely important to some people
Now, hardware limitations are one thing (supposedly why the A7r can't have EFCS), but simple software operations? I don't buy it, and there's no excuse for their exclusion.

Please tell me this isn't true. Really? - no minimum SS in auto ISO!?
Supposedly. I mean, it's not a deal breaker for me, but it *IS* nice to have. Even Canon finally got on board. Sheesh.
Of course, a nice surprise would be that it's actually in the camera or maybe a fast firmware fix would do.

Yeah, that's one of the dumber things about my RX1, too. Granted, you can shoot in M mode with autoISO and exposure comp. active, so that makes up for it a bit.

I made a partial down payment and was told there were already 80 pre-orders ahead of me. However, I'm number two (so I'm told) to receive the a7R, which may be later this coming week.
So, looks like your information may be correct.
Cheers

I have tried two different ZE 21mm on my Metabones III (on NEX 5N) and neither will make infinity. Please report as to whether yours does. Thanks so much!
I just tested the camera with the 21mm Distagon, the 17mm TSE and the 135mm APO-Sonnar. The camera focused perfectly at infinity with all three lenses. The Metabones III seems quite well built and it works very well. The few quick test shots I took, processed in Iridient and examined in CS6 look very good. Later this afternoon I am going to go out and take some more more real shots. The ones I just took were out my back window. Nothing exciting, but I wanted to test the camera. Also I found it is definitely best to trigger the camera either wirelessly or with the remote, I suspect due to the higher pixel count that any vibration is going to be magnified a fair amount.
I will post a a couple of sample images later after I get back.

Wow. 80!
I'm number 5 at my Sony store; another store in the area had a great many more orders at the time I placed mine. I purposely picked a store with a shorter paid-up list, figuring the allocations would be spread.
I keep hearing locally that they are blown away by the ratio of A7r to A7 orders. I hope they / me / we all know what we are doing. I'm not too worried, the A7r is replacing my D800 so I know what I'm getting into, sensor wise.

I didn't preorder from a local store, I have no idea if I'll be getting my camera this year or not. But on the sony.ca website where i preordered 1 it does say shipping by the 26th

Didn't ask what ration of A7 vs. a7R they had on pre-order, but agree with you that most will be disappointed when they realize lens limitations and moiré among, other issues, won't give them what they expect
Regarding our earlier comments on pre-payments for "pre-orders", it's not mercenary for a seller to favour those who put funds up front. After all anyone can walk in off the street and place a pre-order and unless there is at least some financial commitment it would be foolish of a store manager to take it seriously. With the exception of someone who pays the full amount up front, the only other criteria would be of known customers and their habits.
Perhaps we are being unfair to call this mercenary.

No idea Gary but I do have a call into someone at Sony local who has been good with info in the past. If they deliver before end of month I'll be delighted.

Some one on this site indicated when demos are being shipped the orders will be filled shortly thereafter.
Taking that comment as being valid, it is my understanding that demo units were shipped earlier this week.
Cheers
