Just come back from kids’ spring break trip, we went to ski and then go to East Sierra and Death Valley. For the trip, I brought Leica S camera and Z7. Again, Z7 is a lot easier to operating during hike and of course easy to shoot and get tones sharp images but I enjoy every minutes with Leica S. As much as people praise EVF, no camera gives me more connection and enjoyment than OVF to what I shoot. I am willing to take the size and weight for it gives me. (BTW, I have to say this trip reinforce my love of Z7 as well. It just delivers.)
Here is one image from Death Valley during sunset. My trip schedule is heavy loaded as usual that in additional hiking with family during day time, I need spend extra hour go out before sunrise and after sunset as much as I can.

I 100% agree with you. I wish I have a Leica S or a Pentax MF camera, but I really enjoy the Pentax K-1, the only OVF FF IBIS DSLR Camera in the world, a gift for my Leica-R lenses... JaKo is right: nice pics you made on MF thread..
Thank you! I understand your love on Pentax K1. It is a unique combination with IBIS and OVF and tough build. The problem with Pentax is similar here with S1/S1R that both have great body and build higher standard than rest at cheaper price but both also lack good set of native glasses and top AF. But for manual users like you, it is a good choice.
OVF vs EVF; before latest round of EVF camera, I hugely prefer OVF. Now, I think it is a draw, each has its own merits. For shooting pleasure, I still like the OVF the most but EVF is very practical in field especially under golden hour, lower light, or DX shooting. Digital level and histogram are also great features to have sometime.
As for S1/S1R vs Z, I don’t know since I have not used S1 yet. I know I will like that viewfinder, other than that, I really don’t know if it is better than Z or not. I doubt it does given I almost have no complain on Z after multiple trip and Z offer so many unique features I used often. However, for my case, offer more nativish support on M and S glasses seems a big selling point as well as better IBIS and best EVF with high quality build. Will see.
Sorry for off-topic.
