Micheal, how do you like your S007 files relative to those from your S006?
I was forced to upgrade to S007 as Leica think my S006 sensor has corrosion and repair cost is sky high. I will not waste word complain here.
This is 2nd time I shoot S007, I shot a loaner 3 years ago for 6 month. One thing for sure is I prefer S006 for portraits. It still has the best file for skin tone out of any camera including S007. I might get one again later once its price further deep to flat. A bargain it is already IMHO. Compare to modern 35mm system’s 14~15stop DR, S006 has maybe only 11~12, but I can’t get any files close to S006 once condition hit. An old S2 with a 70mm will be the best 50mm system in the world IMO.
For non portrait, I think it is really hard to quantify, I might still prefer S006’s color but it has quite narrow shooting window compare to S007, which is about the level of current FF option in term of DR. S007’s file can handle more process without break and It offer LV. It can get decent file at ISO3200 then S006’s ISO400 only. It has very good shutter with almost no lag.
So, if you consider an upgrade, this will be a tough consideration consider price difference. I am more emotionally attach with S2/S006 files even S007 might be a better tool overall.
