So I had a lot to think about yesterday doing a beauty shoot. I brought my phase one and my sony kit to shoot some beauty shots. I was hoping that i wouldn't have to use the phase one system at all that day. The goal was to use my Sony A7ii with a metabones Zeiss 135mm F2 APO. I shoot mainly tethered so when i connected the sony all the shots were coming in static pink. I couldn't figure why this was happening and the studio i was in had no reception or internet. Complete dead zone. So after messing with the settings i found out that Capture One doesn't support uncompressed raws coming from the A7. So after I figured that out I got about 8 frames into the shoot and realized the files stopped loading into the computer. I noticed that my micro usb wire was loose connecting in. So every time I would touch the wire the camera would disconnect.
I'm not trying to bash Sony and maybe its my fault for not taking care of the wire or reading about how the uncompressed raws don't work on capture one. But holy crap it made me look pretty unprofessional for about 15 to 20 minutes. I am glad that I brought my Phase One yesterday for the shoot. I eventually compared the shots from the 2 cameras and was very happy I used the Phase.
My A7ii gets studio use only because it takes certain adapted CZ Contax-mount lens. Otherwise, I find it to be a major annoyance: sluggish response, tiny buttons, EVF auto-gain with a mind of its own, insane menu structure. Did I leave anything out? I haven't owned MF gear since the '80s, but a bigger camera is just easier to operate. My main studio system is a D3X that really underscores why Nikon is still the go-to brand for banging out results.

Pretty spot on about the Sony a7ii haha. The only think that I love about the Sony a7x system is the fact that the live view is so good. I can see the whole body holding my camera around waist level. I guess its just a good excuse to being lazy lol! Also the focus peaking makes it pretty easy to focus with the zeiss otus 55 and zeiss 135mm apo i currently use. I couldn't see sometimes through the nikon d810 view finder in the studio so i opted for the convenience of focus peaking.
I did a beauty shoot last week with a sony a7ii and 135mm f2 apo and a phase one p40+ with 80mm ls. I shot about 70 frames with the sony and about 15 frames with the phase one. Lets just say i only used 2 frames from the sony which were closeups.
