The new 645z safely arrived three days ago and I'm still enamored with files and images coming out of this beast. Unfortunately, we've received three days of rain which was much needed for my lawn care business but killing my GAS buzz.
I had a couple hours with a break in the clouds yesterday so I immediately grabbed the camera and my 8 yr. old for some quick shooting. "Quick" and "learning a new camera system" don't always go together that well but the button layout and menus make the "z" a pleasure to use. My plan is to use this camera for landscape work predominately, however, I love the "z" and 150mm for portrait work too. So, most of the photos below are of my son. More landscapes / cityscapes to come once I see the sun more than a few minutes.
After my three day review of this camera and three lenses (FA 35mm, 55mm & 150mm) I can honestly say it's the best piece of gear I've ever purchased for my photography. I am one happy camper!
As always, thanks for viewing and the inspiration!
Nice portraiture Jim, on your son who is probably at a more malleable age than say 15 for such things?
4 more from me using the same P67 105 f2.4 lens. The Australian landscape in temperate regions has very muted colours, especially in the trees compared with say European or NE USA trees. These were all taken last week on a day threatening, or producing, light rain.
All four are great David. I especially like the last one. It just takes me in to the country-side. Well done!
As for my son, he still thinks I'm cool and does pretty much everything I ask of him. However, I know that is going to change any minute now and I'll quickly become the village idiot. Not that I'm not already he just hasn't figured it out... yet.
Jim, congratulation for the 645Z. I enjoy your images very much. Cool boy and beautiful family.
Here are two from recent China Trip. It is not work out as planed, we have to cancel a well planed trip to Guilin, Guangxi due to my in-law's health problem.
Anyone here have some phase one people portraits? I love the Leica s2 of the kids I always see on here. I have a pentax 645d and I find it just alright for people. I am looking to buy into a hasselblad or phase one right now and would love to look for more examples :P. I'll only get a Leica if I see it for 4700 again on eBay lol.
I just received my copy of the 75mm yesterday. How does your's perform wide open to f/4? I'm still testing mine out and plan to "fine tune" with Lens Align tomorrow.

Truly enjoy your images as well! My 7 yr. old daughter would give anything to have the awesome hat your daughter is wearing. Both photos and your daughter are beautiful.

The 75mm 2.8 performs extremely well wide open. I shot those shots at 2.8 and it only gets sharper at f4. I think the 75mm 2.8 is a phenomenal lens i like it for portraits more then the 150mm.

I love those colourful portraits taken with the 645D Alex.
What RAW processor do you find works best for you?
I generally use C1 Pro 8 as my RAW processor of choice, however they 'hobble' the 645D and 645Z with generic DNG profiles. I haven't been able to generate images on either LR 2015 (CC) or C1 pro 8.3 that satisfy me with the impact I am seeing on the rear screen.

Sadly thats the one weakness of the Pentax, terrible raw support =(. Capture one supports dng, but gives you really bad colors. Lightroom sadly is the same boat tbh. So I used Adobe Camera Raw. I think that program does it best for raw conversion on the Pentax. I am a huge fan of capture one, but it was a smart move to not support any other medium format platforms.
you can also make a profile for capture one and use that.
