Super stuff Eric. These all look good, and I'd be happy with any of them. 1, 10, 18, and 32 are my picks. Exif is reporting f-stops of 1.7 or 1.8...? Did the kitty in 20 have a bad eye, and did you work on it?

Ron

Thanks so much Ron...and I WAS happy to get these and even the ones with branches and grass in the way.
Don't understand that exif...maybe I got a special copy of the 200-400mm that goes down under 2...weird.
And, yes that big male jaguar has one eye...no I didn't get to do a Cat-aract procedure (the eye actually was probably lacerated in a fight with another cat and is non-functional.) But I did get to name the cat...he is now called Mick Jaguar.

Many, many thanks for not only the picks but your very kind words...they are much appreciated my friend!

Wow Eric, these are just stunning. It's rare to capture such elusive animals in the wild. Can you share any details on your trip. Were you on an organized photo safari or was this self planned? This is one trip I would love to do.

...Dave

Thanks Dave...I was hoping to catch a glimpse of one and to see as many as we did was too cool.

Hi Eric,

Wonderful to see so many images of this fabulous animal. All are very good but 8, 11, 14, 30 and 32 are my picks. The shots of the two cats together are simply superb!

Paul.

Thanks Paul...and I could not have asked to see more than one at a time...very lucky for sure.

Thanks BB...your pick is much appreciated....these guys move around quite a bit so if you can figure out where they will pop up you can get some interesting shots.

Too, too many choices for favorites. Suffice it to say, these are AWESOME!!! I'll bet you still have a smile on your face. What a fantastic trip you must have had and what memories .

Birdie

Thanks Roberta! Yes, these big cats have long been on my list of "must-see". I didn't expect they were going to be so large...and in fact the ones in the Amazon are much smaller...probably has something to do with their diet. Feasting on capybara and caiman on a regular basis must allow the Pantanl cats to grow much larger than their Amazon cousins.

Well you just proved yourself 32 times over as being capable as is your new lens I'm surprised Canon hasn't endorsed you yet as Poster Child for the new 200-400L

I know you were the photographer but in many of these it appears you were about to be ambushed! Man that is one great looking cat Eric and you caught the beauty and intensity in many photos here, super shooting under pressure buddy, wowza baby!

What a gorgeous creature. Those patterns are almost mesmerizing. Wonderful captures, Eric. This had to rank towards the top of your many travels.
Al

Al, for many reasons this was a very special trip. Viewing these awesome cats was amazing...seeing macaws, armadillos and hawks of all colors was remarkable...but spending 9 days with my core family, 24/7 was something even more precious. Thanks

What a great series so lucky to see such illusive cats

Thanks Marcy...so different than leopards...these guys have no rivals and are pretty bold. It's only the foliage that prevents you from seeing them...and photographing from a boat is quite a bit different than from a Land Rover/Cruiser.

Glad to see you putting the 200-400( or is that 200-560) to great use.
Beautiful work are they all handheld?
Thanks for posting..

Gracias! Some of the images were handheld and some from a tripod. If I needed to slow the shutter speed down to keep the iso down I would put it on a tripod, otherwise I handheld the lens fairly easily.

Eric- You've had several "Once-in-a-lifetime" photo trips so far, and this must measure near the top.
The Peanut Gallery can only say "Swell pictures."
And then I turn green with envy.
So- when are you going tiger hunting?
Charlie

Thanks Charlie...this was indeed special..and the size of these cats totally unexpected. As far as tigers, I've been and had much less luck than with jaguars...have some decent shots but the total time with tigers after 6 nights in India was no more than 10 minutes....we had sightings that lasted almost an hour with these cats.

Really nice. Where were you and do you find hand-holding the 200-400 basically the same as a 500 mark I?

These were taken in Brazil in the Pantanal...it is probably the best place anywhere to see jaguars. I found the 200-400 fairly easy to hand hold....maybe a bit easier than the 500V1 and on par with the 600V2. Thanks!
