The reason APS-H sounds very unlikely is that Leica are a very small volume manufacturer. The idea that they will commission a custom sensor of special size is just not on. The only way they might get one into their cam is to take a Type 240 FF sensor and "only" use part of it. But that is hardly cheap... That said, I'd love the idea...
And if they use the Sony 16Mp, there have been so many implementations of it that it would be hard to see Leica really outshine others with it, which it ought to in order to justify a stiff price.
Edward, I agree with you. But some of Leica's actions are so bizarre that I have to wonder whether succeeding is actually one of their strategic goals.
There is zero chance that Leica will start a new mount for the mini M IMHO. Either it is M mount, or it is fixed lens. As the X series is already fixed lens APS-C, I don't see that happening with the Mini. Also, I have info that says it is interchangeable lens APS-C. That info is about a year old, but was solid.
At this point I'd be pleasantly surprised if it was a kitten. I see discussion has leant towards a FF sensor. I can't see it being mirrorless as it would eat their RF, but who knows. I'm hoping for fixed lens, but not 'slow'.
It's depressing how many members are predicting the 'Mini M' will be APS-C rather than fullframe.
I am not sure if this demonstrates a lack of judgement about the market or whether it's a general sentiment that might inform Leica's decision making as well.
Meanwhile the Leica Rumors guy is saying a fixed lens zoom
"This is exactly what I am hearing too - a new X with a zoom lens."

Still interested in the Leica, Mat?
The M designation imo can mean anything. We shouldn't take it too seriously. Just marketing talk.
It seems the "M" once meant something very specific - "Messsucher". A measuring viewfinder - combined rangefinder with viewfinder. That would not appear to be the case any longer given that Leica marketing is lumping the X2 in with the M.
There's a quote from noted Leica-phile Thorsten Overgaard:
"A Leica mini-M seem to be under development and will - according to Stefan Daniel at a speech back in September 2010- not be ready for Photokina 2012... So we are talking later than that. But what we do know is that they are aiming at a mirrorles camera (the Leica M has always been mirrorless, but we're probably talking CMOS sensors that will enabe live view and thus focus confirmation). This camerea will also contain the R-solution which means that it will be able to take R lenses and offer focus confirmation for these."

If it's intended to really be an "R-Solution" than it really would make no sense if it were not FF. That info looks old (based on a speech from 2010!) so things could have changed. The above sounds like the M 240 imo.

Outside possibility it's m43 mount. I consider that unlikely but possible. If so, it will probably be related to the GX2.
But I consider an M mount APS-C body, based either on the CL or the X2, to be most likely.
Frankly, I'd prefer the m43 option. Would make it far less likely that the two Leica DG lenses will be semi-orphans like they are today. I'd love to see more Leica glass become available in m43 mount, particularly some wides.
