My guess is it's full frame with either a short range zoom (less likely) or wide prime, an RX1 competitor. They know what is coming in the next 12 months and need more product to plug gaps.
Fast lens, look at the diameter of the mount relative to the body size. The body does not extend far from the mount to the left or bottom. The x2 is already APS-C. 'Larger than usual' has a hint of mystique compared with 'world's first full frame compact'.
Remember that I proposed a 40mm (equiv) like the Minilux. There is still hope.
But, the "larger than usual sensor for body size" says very little. It could indicate a micro four turds sensor or an APS-C but most certainly not a FF with that vague sweeping statement. If it is anything smaller than APS-C then I am not so thrilled.
If it is APS-C I would say that IS the new "usual" for high end, fixed lens compact digital cameras. The RX1 is not your "usual" camera.
I dare to say the new camera will be good looking, have a great lens, dated on board electronics and an APS-C sensor (latter could still be good enough) a low resolution rear LCD, fixed, and an exorbitant price tag. You can separately purchase a smart looking leather case for $400 for it. I am serious.

amen
Not only 40 is an awesome focal length, not only it can easily be f2 AND pancake AND with FF coverage, but it's the only lens that even leica can produce cheaply. They have done it in the past.
A bit $hit for you landscape/architecture shooters but awesome for us people shooters... a little bit soft, sweet oldschool rendering, a touch of vignetting, lots of aberrations that people call "glow"... aaahhh magic
dont worry, it aint gonna happen.

The "leaked" image of the camera with the zoom lens does not match the partially visible camera in the box on the leica website. But then, the "thing" in the partially opened box doesn't look like a realistic representation of a camera fitting inside the depicted box, unless it was very compact and had an interchangeable lens mount or an extremely "pancaky" lens.
Maybe a Cron 35ish if it's APS-C or a Cron 50 on a FF? It's such a wheelhouse focal length for them and a favorite focal length of many shooters. With everyone, including Leica, covering a 35mm 135-equiv, it might make sense.
So what would it have to be at this point to make you interested enough to buy?
Personally, I'm not sure Leica can make a camera that would move me to purchase. I think the S and S2 are fantastic, but I am completely unwilling to make the sacrifices necessary to shoot pictures of my dog with those spectacular lenses on that large sensor. I don't like rangefinders or typical RF MFD or the idea of using the same EVF I used on the EP2 and currently use on the GXR because it's frustrating enough on cheap cameras, so the M's out. The only fixed lens camera I find at all interesting is the RX1, mostly because I have a hard time differentiating its draw from the Summicron 35 ASPH on an M, which I do like, but I'm not sold on using an AF lens. So if Leica can make a FF fronted by a Cron 35 ASPH with a .3M MFD that's manual focus and has an aperture ring for $3k, I'm in. Heck, I'd even go $4k for that.
It would be rather moronic for them to say "larger than usual sensor for its relatively small body" and then have it (a larger camera than the X2) have an APS-C sensor. It's full-frame.
Once that's settled, it's an RX-1 competitor. So 35mm, maybe 40mm, is likely.
If it is indeed FF, it has to be the innards of the M in order to make sense. This of course raises, as a side issue, the crippled LiveView. Bad enough on the M, it becomes fatal on a "simple" mirrorless.
But the main issue is: fixed lens, or interchangeable?
With the RX1, fixed lens is the price to pay for optical performance despite the technical constraints of E-mount. But with the Mini M, there need be no such compromise, so why not make it interchangeable? The only answer I see is: to protect the M....
All of this leads me to restate my forecast. APS-C.

Hmmm normal prime lens, full frame sensor, built in viewfinder and the body not made by leica.
Leaked pic shows vario elmar short zoom 24-70
More than likely APS-C
X2 style body so not interchangeable
Higher megapixels, though not huge
And I bet it's got video on it so live-view and evf possibly an even better evf (it needs to be)
Pricing I guess around $3500 £2500
Maybe

Except when you're Leica apparently!
