I understand. I don't really see the M9/ M as a big camera. But compared to the nex it is indeed. Also didn't knew about the LV of the X2 being better than that of the M240.
Don't throw away all hope. Last week we didn't knew about the mini M, who knows what leica have for us in the future.
The only LV implementations worse than the M240 are the various second-sensor LV setups that Olympus & Sony experimented with before going to EVF's.
I'm disappointed in Leica. They could easily have done something truly interesting with the Mini M. Instead they've given us something akin to a NEX+Kit lens with the lens fixed. The only consolation is that the lens might be truly exceptional. A truly exceptional 28-70 fixed lens with a leaf shutter and that excellent 16MP Sony sensor might be an interesting camera for light backcountry carry.
That said, unless it's weather sealed an OM-D and the 12-50 sounds like a better package.
What the Mini M looks like is a reprocessing of whatever parts Leica had in its bin looking for an (as yet) empty market niche. So the sensor and electronics are the X's. If you start with that as a given, what can you produce that would be original? Certainly not an interchangeable-lens camera, because thad would allow head-on comparison with a NEX also kitted out with Leica glass. What then if a humble 5N (a very capable camera, even today IMHO) outperformed the much more recent and expensive Mini M?
So, in order to avoid that, no interchangeable lens. Then if it has to be fixed, the only alternative to an X is a zoom lens, because Sony and Fuji don't (yet) have high-end "standard" zooms, and the Leica zoom should comfortably outperform their kit zooms. And, hey, presto! you have a Mini M, a camera that nobody else has. Why the überslow zoom is probably a cost/size issue.

weird enough thinking to sound perfectly reasonable to a leica fan

Imagine being the product manager for the Hassleblad Lunar.
How could you show your face in public after that fiasco!
Are there sales records for the Lunar?
Don't forget there was also a market for Vertu phones. Not the state of art, not something entirely new, but they sold.
If those products can boost the sales records, and so indirectly pay for development of great products, its fine by me.
If leica needs this mini M to fund the costs to develop a 14mm super elmar-m I'm very happy with the mini M.
This seems to be a low R&D cost product that will probalby do well in certain markets. I'd equate it to Porsche making an SUV. Purists were horrified, but they sell remarkably well and keep the doors open to make more exciting products.
Ok, so the body looks likely to be FF or 1.3 crop. The lens is collapsible like the X2. Same flash position. Now if the lens is removable, that would be something, but we all know it won't be.
That's what I was thinking, at least about the lens... looks very different in the teaser unless there is a perspective problem. Trying to keep an open mind....
Interesting though that the camera will be available in stores at launch. I wonder where it is made (and by whom)?
It looks like rumor image matches to what Leica has been releasing so far other then the depth of the lens due to photo angle. Currently only the aperture value is missing, that is for next week maybe.

It's like a roller-coaster ride.
Then we found out it's just perspective that make the zoom look like pancake...
Edit: The flash, the word "Leica" and the small bump above the lug seems to match though...
Leica is certainly insinuating the rumors are false with the "Heard the Rumors? Get the Truth" tag and "larger than usual sensor for its relatively small body" remark.
Should this turn out to indeed match the previous lackluster rumors, I don't think this would turn out so great for Leica's image.
