Thanks Jess. Looking at the shots from today i think i've almost nailed the shimming, as i've never had such a high success rate with the Samyang. Annoyingly it seems to be "right" at medium distances but slightly backfocused at closer proximity. I might have to make a compromise.
A couple more from today's outing. Since i can't compete with Peter for BIF, due to limitations in both equipment and talent, i'm going to try to stand out in the BIF subject area using different rules: Manual Focus BIF

15Bit, you did very well there....I couldn't MF accurately on a standing Mack truck, let alone a flying bird.
This stupid red tailed pijun just kept hopping inside a tree. Out of one dozen shots fired, all of them have the bird image obstructed by branches, and all of them have white sky background. As you can tell, our spring in Ontario doesn't mean we've got trees leafing....not yet.

Terry, what an amazing, beautiful bit of gardener's paradise you must have created. Stunning is each image, your floral caring/design/nourishing skills shine through brilliantly. I'm really loving you shots. As a former architect your garden work is inspiring, humbling to say the least, well arranged, grown and captured. Thank you for sharing your magic...WoW
Seems I've some weeding to do...now where are my gloves
Thank you, Stillfingerz!!! You are very kind with your words...go get the weeds! And you are correct..it has taken me years...and I live my passion with my garden, and camera....
Got up a little late today...wind is nice and dead early in the AM...for stacking. This is a big flower too...8 photos.
Shot the same as most of my iris shots in the Thread anyway.

Tony, that Brewer's blackbird is a gorgeous photo, with the lichen and buds spicing up the setting but not overpowering the modest coloring of the bird.
15Bit, I like all of your MF BIFs. As for the requested caption...maybe "I'll just hover up here until they tire each other out, then I'll swoop in and grab the fish!"

Here's one for Jefferson, what he would call a tree shark. I think of it as a Carolina Koala, hopped up on spiked eucalyptus. Anyway, this one did a double-take. I should make an animated gif out of the three shots.

Peter - i like that last raptor shot. Personally I don't mind the odd twig, as placing the subject in its natural habitat gives a sense of realism.
Terry - a great ongoing set. The combination hobbies of gardening and photography...
Ernie - that Swallowtail definitely looks like its got a back-story.
Roger - great light on the first. Looks superb on my desktop, though terrible on my laptop due to being way beyond the screen gamut.
Photon - that looks like a new avatar to me....
Skibum - lovely colours, and a squeaky clean sensor by the looks of it. The polarizer seems to have had an interesting effect on the sky.
No chance of wild flowers / blossom etc here for a couple of weeks at least, so i have to make do with messing around indoors. 5D, Samyang 85mm f/1.4 and some Kenko tubes:

Continuing through the seagull melee shots i find my "in-focus" percentage is excellent - the nice contrasty conditions no-doubt help a lot. I also find i quite like them in B&W too:
